Just got back from said retailer after buying a new 42" HD tellly that they advertised as full HD 1080p.

Got it back home and did a bit of googling to see if i had got a good deal and low and behold, it isnt 1080p at all, but 720p 1080i and no better than the one i already have!

Good job its unopened and on buy now pay next year as its going straight back in the morning and I'm getting what deposit i put down (£300) back.

Teach me to go leaping before looking wont it!

if your giving monthly payments i would seriously rethink that statement seeing as in 90% of cases you are paying more for the same thing if you were to buy it outright :p

I wasnt, its interest free for a year.
It was being paid for when i got back off honeymoon.

I wasnt born yesterday.

So you have a 42 Plasma now that does 720p/1080i, and you think going to 1080p is worth the "upgrade" ..... What models are we talking about, bottom range old to Top end new Pioneer ??? ............Sounds like a waste of money to me... ... Either way enjoy, and a Happy New Year :)

the question is....do you actually need a 1080P tv? if you already have a hd ready tv imo its not worth it unless you got a ps3/360 or heavily into your blueray, hd dvd movies!

Well, I've gone from my 3 year old 44" RP LG (which although it will accept 720p and 1080i is only a 720x576 display)

to this:
http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/Samsung-LE40M86BD/

which i got for £800 after haggling at the large retailer.

But that TV has a 1920 x 1080 panel!

Also, it's 40".

Yes, i know, that is the model i have now in exchange.
Thats what Ive said?

Are you all deliberately obnoxious and stupid today?

I went back, and chose this one in exchange, the FIRST TV was a 42" (like I said) i then went back today (like i said) and got a different tv (like i said) which is the one I've just posted a link to, (like i've just done)

The post wasnt about the aspects of BUYING THE TV, the SIZE of the TV but rather the sticking of 1080p stickers on every tv in the shop.
I can see where those of you who are not as bright as others have slipped up.
I didnt quite lead you by the hand and and give you step by step instructions throughout my posts.
sorry about that, I'll draw a map for you guys next time.

Addressing other points:

Yes i needed a 1080p TV, i have a playstation 3 and a large collection of Blu ray discs.

The post was more a warning to by careful for you guys when buying a new tv as they might be embellishing the specs a little bit, or indeed not quite understand themselves what they are selling.

Ermm...................... LOL.

Perhaps I am being but where did you say this?

Ahh, i see MY mistake, i should have put "TODAY" in the post with the link in it.

"as in swapped it TODAY for this".

Sorry, just very wound up by people trying to be clever, very frustrating when people are trying to steer a thread to somewhere it wasnt intended to go, especially when they are trying to do it at the expense of making somebody looking stupid or worse........... telling fibs.

he didnt.

you're being extremely rude and arrogant. you implied that the new tv was the samsung. at no point did you say the samsung was the 3rd tv you bought, to replace the second one, whatever that was.

No i didnt, I missed a few words out of the reply.

I didnt imply anything.

He didn't. And I wasn't drinking last night either.

Yes i did, i can see the post, its still there.

See what i mean, we've gone from ME trying to give a helpfull friendly warning to fellow forum members about being carefull when they buy a telly.

To me all of a sudden trying to pull the wool over peoples eyes and being arogant.

The TV, the price, the size, the make, where or where ever i said what the new one is is irrelevant in the context of the thread.

just be carefull you check the specs when you buy.

That is the point.

I was trying, to be helpfull.

Now i shan't bother, NONE of you deserve help, you are spiteful, ignorant and unpleasant.
