Hiccups

This works 100% but you need someone to help -

Using both your hands close off your nostrils and earholes and sip from a glass of water.

(I suppose you could use a straw but I've never tried it)

hold your breath for as long as you can, then take another quick breath and do it again, repeat for a couple of minutes, **** get rid of them

Holding my breath for aslong as possible ussually works for me.

a lot of people say if you get a shock you will get rid of them but this has never worked in my expierence.

Right, gone again...they go and then SOMEHOW return..driving me mad. :(

This has worked for everybody I know -

Using both your hands close off your nostrils and earholes and sip from a glass of water.

HERE'S WHY IT WORKS: Hiccups are caused by an uncontrollable spasm in the diaphragm, (the "breathing" muscle). Often, this spasm is triggered by irritable conditions in the smooth muscles of the stomach or the esophagus. The "Hughes/Green Hiccups Cure" forces an increase in the carbon dioxide levels in the diaphragm itself, as well as in the stomach and esophagus. By swallowing, you are making the muscles work -- so they use up their available oxygen and replace it with carbon dioxide. By temporarily discontinuing to breath, you prohibit new oxygen from entering your body and thus create an anaerobic condition in the spasming diaphragm muscle. When the spasming diaphragm and stomach are deprived temporarily of oxygen and encounter the higher levels of carbon dioxide ... you feel that scary drowning sensation! BUT this causes the spasming muscles to relax! The hiccups go away! Essentially, you are "tricking" your body into thinking that it's drowning ... and it decides to use it's resources for something other than hiccuping. The rather "scary" drowning sensation caused by this method is NECESSARY for the method to work. If it's not just a little bit difficult ... it doesn't work.

Noobs - just concentrate on relaxing your diaphragm.

OK - so I have the rather strange 'talent' of being able to do this. I can stop hiccups immediately just by 'thinking' my diaphragm into relaxing. :o :)

Why is it that on the day you get hiccups, you often get a repeat performance later on that day?

Hate hiccups!!! Usually get them when I'm eating yum food!!!

Take really deep breaths BUT exhale very slowly like deflating a bike tyre and concentrate on it for about 5 mins.

Works for me everytime.
