I have never pushed my 6420 just cant be bothered never understood how you all do it 8 hour tests and all that what if it fails 20 mins after you start it and you gone bed lol wish there were a site with voltages required etc to get certain clocks on certain chips to save a lot of painstaking work

I had one i stuck in a build, got it at 3.3 (24 hours stable) on an AC Pro so i think it would have gone well with my WCing.
Just over 17 minutes Super pi 32m time as well.

there isnt really any point in doing 8 hours tests , isnt it obvious if your machine is stable or not? Just fire up a game and see how it is.

Just keep your existing CPU and get a new 45nm Quad when they come out. Much better that way. No point in spending money on a Q6600 now with the new quads on the horizon. The new Intel quads should be a lot cooler to run too.

It stops people making outragous claims for huge overclocks.
If a machine is Orthos stable for a 24 hour run and it falls over doing something else then at least you can rule out CPU/Mobo/Mem issues.

fair enough, for me though, i just do a quick half an hour orthos/prime test, and if it seems ok and the temps are good i just leave it.

You are kidding yourself that your PC is stable.

At the end of the day its your choice but playing games does not mean your pc is stable.

I know this clock is stable.

The last PC i built was for Video Editing so i clocked it then give it a 24 Hour Orthos run and then ripped/encoded a few DVD's. Passed all with flying colours so i know it wont throw a fit during an encoding session.

Yours is at 3.8, mine is at 3ghz, its been like that for about 2 months now and not a single problem, but when i raised it too 3.2, i left it there for a while, but it bsod's about 20 minutes into a game, but that was on stock volts so i know what the problem was.
