I'm going to Amsterdam via coach and my friends and i were laughing about smuggling things back...yes, we ARE joking but then we started to wonder if it was actually possible.

Surely coaches are searched but how? Every single bag? Sniffer dogs?

Not every single coach is searched no.

Well, they weren't the last time I crossed the border on a coach.

But, searched..unpacking and repacking every single suitcase? It just doesn't make much sense - the time factor and the amount of staff needed?

its obvious you want to smuggle a certain something back, and seeing as its amsterdam i wonder what it could be? :p

then why post lol, its obvious you want to smuggle a certain something back, and seeing as its amsterdam i wonder what it could be? :p

I'd rather not take the risk but i was curious as to what the risks actually were as i have never travelled on a coach out of the country or even a car actually. :o

Not something you want to test surely.

God no. My life is in order for once and i want to keep it that way.

from personal experience , we all had to get off were lined up , the dog was then taken along the line and then taken on board

If its a group of young people they more often than not search them. I have known people to get away with it by chucking their "goods" into the communal bus bins when they saw the police and then denying all knowledge though.

Not worth it.

When I crossed the border on a coach, everyone on board was asked to wave their passport in the air (i.e. unopened), while the customs guy came round to check we all had one (i.e. no checking that the passport photo matched the face).

No dogs, no searches, nothing. So if I had wanted to, I'm sure I could have brought back some souvenirs from my trip.

When we crossed the border in a coach, it wasnt searched. But according to the drivers, sniffer dogs cant smell anything up in the overhead compartments :)

Went to amsterdam on the ferry not too long ago. Never got Searched, but i guess they might search coaches. Usually with dogs, Being Amsterdam and all.......

Depends what other people are on the coach and stuff i guess.

If it was a bus full of lads coming back from amsterdam then yes more than likely you will.

If it was just you and a few mates on a normal coach with like old people and stuff then maybe not, hit and miss.

Back from Amsterdam though i would say more than likely yes

EDIT - Btw go and visit The Greenhouse on the Warmastrason (sp?) - Think that was the road. Spent too many hours in that place, brings back good memories of last summer haha
