Hello... as far as I know OCUK don't sell these so I should be ok? ;)

I need to get one as its been months since the freezer in mine has broken... the fridge still works... but have been looking at the sales and the only thing troubling my decision is the single/twin thermostat thing.

I don't really know what they are, and of course the people in the store are complete noobs and know **** all about what they are selling.

Can't find anything on the net explaining which is better or how it works... so if anyone finds anything thats great.

I thought twin thermostat meant that one ran the fridge and one ran the freezer, so if the freezer one packed up the fridge would still work (which I am assuming has happened to the one that I have now)... but from what I found on interweb, the thermostats only control the temperatures of each part individually and nothing says that it controls the running of each bit.

I'm confused!!! :( please help!!!

Twin thermostat Fridge Freezers you can control the temperature of the fridge & the freezer separately. single thermostat FF's the control is in the fridge only, the freezer is kept at a constant -18 degrees.
you may well have a twin compressor FF & the freezer one has packed up or lost its gasses. you could get it re-gassed (not if its an old model though that uses CFC's - yep the stuff that makes the hole in the ozone layer) if so its time to buy a new one.

Wow! Thanks for your help much appreciated!!!

Much clearer... :) looks like it'll be ok for me to go with the cheaper single thermostat in that case.

Not really any reason why you would need to change the temp of the Freezer?!

Thanks again!!!

AFAIK, my fridge freezer has the one compressor - but two sets of fans turn on and blow a cool breeze into either the fridge or freezer.

Basically I would imagine the compressor keeps the freezer to the set temperature, and uses the cool air in the freezer to cool the fridge on demand.

Sorry guys ... wrong thread .... posted this in error:

I think I am going to buy:

Bosch KGV33NW20G at £307.

Anyone have any final comments before I buy?

Thanks

Re gassing is more hit than miss. If there is a leak inside the system, re gassing is pointless as you can never fix the leak. Also, if the compressor fails and spews oil into the system that is a right off too, you can't get the oil out even if you vac the system.
