Transfering files from the ps3 hard drive

I have been wondering this as well, wouldn't it be possible to take out the old harddrive and connect it to a PC SATA connection together with the new drive and use Windows to copy the data to the new harddrive?

If you are using the latest firmware and the media sharing functionality and are talking about transferring films/photos/music locally to the device, then when browsing the media share that you've exported from your PC, there is an option in the menu to copy. This copies the files locally to the PS3 and seems to work well. Not as good as FTP, but works all the same and none of that RedKawa file server business that you had to use in the past.

tried that, pc just wants to format the drive

ive installed sak on the ps3 which allows you to use the ps3 as a http server and download stuff thru the browser
