Hey Chaps.

Looking to buy a decent 500 Watt + Power Supply for my system to allow me to upgrade to a bigger specification graphics card later this month, either a 8800GT or 3850 Pro.

Can anyone recommend me a decent 500 Watt + Power Supply with Modular Cables, budget is between £50-£60 notes.

Hey caithomas44.

I was looking at that one earlier today but I was unsure on what to get, this is why I posted this thread here.

Is this Power Supply any good? Haven't seen many threads relating to this Power Supply.

Hey 8igdave.

On a budget unfortunatly, the extra £8 will take me out of my budget area i've got other components i've got to buy along with the Power Supply.

I'm not really sold on the Modular System, but it's a good idea for keeping my case cable clutter free and easier to move to an other system upgrade later.

Not heard much about Coolermasters Power Supplies, must be new on the market, they any good? If not may consider dropping a component I have in the basket to get the Corsair 520.

Hey 8igdave.

Out of these Power Supplies listed below, which one would you purchase.

1. Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-520HXUK).
2. Coolermaster Real Power 520w Modular Power Supply.

The extra £8 isn't a problem now.

corsair. Its made by the same people who make the seagate ones, i have the 620w seagate and they are great. Very reliable, give a very good efficientcy with little drop on the voltages (unlike hipers which are all over the place) and quiet. never tryed or really read anything about a coolmaster before but id imagine the corsair is still better.

Hey Chaps.

Thanks for all the help, you've just made my minds up going for the Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-520HXUK).

Looking to run a 8800GT or 3850 Pro later with it.

Hey 8igdave.

Thanks again mate, one more thing before I purchase this now does all the cables that come with the Corsair HX 520W model work with all the graphics cards including the 8800GTX or Ultra if I decide later on to go that little extra.

Its all standardized.

You get:

Motherboard Connector: 20+4 Pin

Connectors:
1 x 4pin ATX 12V
8 x 4pin Molex
2 x 6pin PCI-E Power
1 x 6pin Workstation
2 x FDD Power
4 x SATA Power

The gtx takes 2x 6pin so you can upgrade. I beleive the GT only uses 1x6pin?

However i fail to see how it can do sli gtx although i nkow it can. I think you get a converter for the molex cables. Perhaps someone will shead some light on how you get 4x6pin's out of it for the gtx in sli.

Hey 8igdave.

Thats good to know then because I thought that many of the bigger cards used 8pin PCI-E Power now unless I read that wrong somewhere.

Yeah just relised. But the corsair has a 2+6pin conversion thing that means it can do a 6 and 8pin. Im trying to revise and go on forums, doesn't really work lol.
