My sister recently had to move back and she brought a young jack Russell with her, so there is now me, my sister and dad living in the house (and the dog)

the thing is this dog casts hairs like crazy. she rarely cleans them up and the dog is allowed to sleep on the sofa, in fact any chair in the living room it likes so you cannot move or sit anywhere without getting covered in dog hairs

so i had a go at her regarding this and she refused to talk about. it's my opinion a dog like that should have it's place in the household and that it should never be allowed on the sofas and have a bed where it sleeps out the back. would i be right that most pet/dog owners feel the same? i love dogs but i also know that they need discipline and you are the master not them.

we had a Yorkshire terrier before who was also allowed on the sofa, however they don't cast and they don't jump from one sofa to the other like crazy, so in my eyes this was acceptable, but jack Russell's are a different story all together.

what do you think?

I have 2 bunnies and a dog who all live in the house, they get on the bed, and I just find I have to hoover things most days. I dont mind the dog being on the bed or sofa, and so ive just got used to hoovering a lot.

Dog was allowed in the house but never on the furniture.

Beds were ok but only with a throw on them.

When we used to have a cat, was not allowed upstairs or on the furniture. Also kicked out at night, but with a dog a basket/bed in the house would probably be better.

When people do bring pets into the house, they normally aren't allowed on the sofa and need to be kept well behaved.

My spelling nazi skills are spying bad spelling. :o

at my mums we have 2 cats, both have a throw, one over the back of a setee and the other over the arm of the other setee and they know this is the only part of the furniture they are allowed on

Two cats. They are allowed anywhere in the house except the main sitting room, because they would ruin the sofas.

Mum/Sister 'put them to bed' in the utility room at night. If they aren't around I just let them sleep wherever they feel like in the house.

Our dog is allowed on the furniture in the conservatory but only where his sheet is. Whenever we lay a towel down he's allowed to lie on that. And he's allowed on the rug in front of the fire.

He sleeps on his bed in the kitchen and doesn't go on any other furniture.

There's a big debate about this in my house at the moment. My wife lets the dog, an English Toy Terrier, walk all over her - often literally! He's now ripped the leather sofa that we paid £2500 for last year. Not pleased.

His behaviour has also reached a head the last few days since he started really snarling at a friend who came round wearing a Leeds United scarf and wouldn't calm down. Now I don't like Leeds Utd myself, but it was going a bit too far. We reckon he's being defensive since he thinks that he's got to defend her from the horrible bright yellow thing. Also happens with cyclists wearing fluorescent jackets and anyone tall wearing a hat!

A bit of desensitization is in order I think, and we've booked him in to have his 'nads chopped off next Tuesday.

My cat goes anywhere it wants. He basically runs the house - seriously.

My uni house is different, our landlord said "Nothing with a tail" :(

1 cat. He is allowed to do what he likes. He was a stray, but he's so well behaved. He has 2 designated sleeping areas.

With dogs though, they need boundaries. I take a dog walking most lunchtimes and he doesn't know boundaries. The owner seems to change rules with him all the time.

Two boxer dogs.

Both have full run of the house when im out, sleep where they want (sofas etc) during the day and both sleep on my bed at night.

Wouldnt have it any other way. I tidy up after them though, as its my house :) and I've found that no matter how long I leave it, no one else will tidy up after me.

2 beagles in our house

allowed on the sofas, but not one of the chairs

not allowed upstairs, other than to be chucked int he bath =p

they sleep in the office, one in a dog bed, the other in a cage (he likes to chew stuff)

they don't shed too much, so you don't get covered in hairs when sitting on the sofa, and we like having them with us on the sofas.
