Pets in your house, what are the rules?

Well he does malt, but some breeds malt more than others. The amount mine does it's hardly noticeable, and not just because I don't notice it any more heh.

I bet he malts loads. Even girls with long hair malt loads(don't malt more than other people, but because there long it's noticeable). Let alone a dog.

My cat has free roam of the house and goes anywhere, though we try and discourage her from jumping up onto high furniture, if only to stop her hurting herself. She is also not allowed in the living room at night at the moment as she would knock the Christmas tree over!

I'd not have it any other way though. I don't understand people who don't let pets go where they want!

My dog malts. It's quite handy really, as I can't be bothered doing all that work with the hops to get it ready for brewing. I just leave him to do the malting while I concentrate on more important things.

Everyone should have a malting dog to help out with home brewing.

If it's a single malt then it's not so bad, it's when several malts are blended that causes problems.

Got a ginger and white cat called Dougal (yeah, I know it's a dog's name really). He's an old fella that has lived with pretty much everyone in our close and chooses to live with us currently. Only rule is that it's his house.

Fortunately he's scared of our expensive leather sofa and doesn't go anywhere near the kitchen work surfaces. He's got a big doughnut that he sleeps in during the day, and at night he likes to sleep on our bed or underneath our son's bunkbed - but he always runs and hides when you wake up... I hate to think what he's gone through in his earlier life to make him so scared about being caught on the bed :(

His other favourite party trick is to run down the stairs whenever anyone is walking downstairs in a slalom kinda way, which always ends up in him being shouted at. He's also not very good at stopping when he reaches the laminate flooring at the bottom of the stairs so he often crashes into the wall. Oh, and he's like a Chinese tourist when he's walking in front of you.... walks at normal speed then stops abruptly. Have tripped over him numerous times when I'm carrying shopping bags and can't see where the flaming thing is.

Our cat is more or less allowed to do as she likes.
We don't allow her on top of tables and she has learnt that rule well - when we first got her she would jump onto tables, however being patient and lifting her off whenever she jumped up and she no longer does it (well not when we are about anyway).
For some reason in the past week she decided that she fancied sleeping on the worktop in the kitchen - I went downstairs for a drink the other night and caught her curled up on the kitchen worktop giving me a guilty look.
She was immediately removed and hopefully will learn that is a definite no.

Other than that she comes and goes as she pleases - sometimes she'll spend the night on the tiles, other times on our bed but most often "somewhere" in the house.

I've got a 7 month old Boxer that likes doing that. Downright dangerous!

If he's not attempting the slalom then he's trying to bite your feet.

Bloody mutt :D

My cat does the same thing. She tends to do it at night, which can be even worse if you forget to turn the light on as she is black!

She also has a lovely habit of sitting right at the top of the stairs, or in front of the bathroom door. She is trying to kill either us or herself I think!:p

Our Jack Russell has her basket which she sticks to - not allowed to sleep anywhere else other than infront of the fire.
We've recently got a Springer Spaniel pup which I'm trying to train in the same way with much hardship! Thankfully she's black.

Excellent :D

The cats allowed the run of our house when were're home but is confined to the hall, stairs, landing and bathroom when we're out, she also sleeps on the landing

The dog (13 1/2 week old Akita) is allowed in the kitchen, hallway and living room when we're in, he's not allowed on any furniture though and he's in the kitchen when we're out. He's never left alone for more than a few hours. He sleeps in the kitchen aswell.

I have cats - so really it's a case of me trying to work out what the rules are and obeying them to the best of my ability!

Seriously though, no cats in the kitchen unless there are humans in there. No cats on the stairs (they run up and down causing an awful racket - and they trip people up). No cats on the tables or counters - ever! No cats to be anywhere near me while I'm eating. No cats in the bathroom.

Apart from that, they can pretty much do what they want, where they want - within reason!

got a dog and a cat, cat sleeps on my bed at night, usually next to my head, and the dog on the floor by the door, sort of keeping gaurd type thing, hoover my room everyday, change the bedding everyday, so not a problem

Got a couple of dogs, meduim and large. Both are allowed to sleep wherever they please - but they mostly sleep in the dinning room near the patio door.

they sometimes venture upstairs and sleep on a bed, or the hallway... They are allowed on the sofa, as I've got a leather sofa so easy to keep clean.

They never mess or chew anything. Well house trained. If you train pets well enough they do make good house pets.

Sometimes though - well you just have to boot um out... Depends I guess.

I have a 9 year old Boxer (with a tail) who molts a lot . . . . . or maybe I just don't clean it up enough . . . .
Now sleeps in her bed but used to get on my bed when younger. She's not allowed on the furniture either.

Got any recent pics of your killer Gilly? (can't remember what you called him in the end)

MY cat rules the house too, she's slept pin pretty much any place possible for her to fit in and she's so nosey that any new item brought into the house has to be inspected by her and be given her approval.

Our dog is allowed on the furniture in the conservatory but only where his sheet is. Whenever we lay a towel down he's allowed to lie on that.
That's interesting since it's the kind of rules I'd like to put in place, but my wife isn't convinced that it's possible to do what I want. Do you move the sheet or is it always on the same piece of furniture? If the latter, has he learnt to go on there only when the sheet is there?
