Anyone had any experience with this. I don't know what airline to choose, any recommendations!!!

Looking at Skytrax airline reviews, Singapore airline looks good, but I would like to hear the experiences of the well traveled here!!!

I think Singapore airlines are the best in the world overall (for economy class at least). I've not travelled with them though but I know many that have.

Not quite the answer you may be looking for but we flew from Sydney to LA economy with Quantas and that was an okay flight (except for the mess the time change puts onto your body). We did however have the emergency seats though so had plenty of leg room.

We also flew with Quantas around Australia and all flights were rather pleasant :). Bearing in mind this all took place in 2004 but surely things can't have changed that much? (Dont call me "surely"..........taxi!!).

I've flown to Australia with Singapore Airlines in economy and I thought they were pretty good.
Food was excellent and I didn't have any issues with the seats and I'm 6'2.

I went on Quantas, was a majorly long flight.

We decided to stop off in Singapore for a few days on the way, and then go on down to Sydney to split the journey up and make it a bit different. See a few more cultures on the way and whatnot :)

Quantas were good though, and i go to go in the cockpit woo :D

I can't advise you but I would do what Dark Inj. said and split the journey up- have a day or two in Singapore, chill out, go shopping, etc.

Singapore Airlines > Rest

Went with Emirates in the Summer and they were alright - straight flights through - food was alright, entertainment was alright, seats were alright, hostesses were alright.

Went with Singapore Airlines about 5 years ago and they were awesome. They may have changed since then, so gotta take that into account but everything was absolutely awesome. An example of the difference - the entertainment on Emirates is currently what they were on Singapore Airlines back then.

Went singapore and emirates, both very good, entertainment about the same on each (back of seat screen, games, on-demand movies and so on). Both had 'western' meals and ethnic meals, for the ethnic I'd choose singapore over emirates (goat, bleeugh - for pities sake don't have the mixed grill).

If I had to choose again though I'd say singapore because the air hostesses are lush :)

On the economy side they are all pretty much the same. I have heard that the Virgin flights from HKG-SYD are generally pretty empty so you might get a row to yourself.

Have done the Lon - Aus trip 5 times now (moving permantly end of Jan :) ) & my advice is to avoid BA/Quantas. Try any of the Asianian or Emirates, also I think Virigin now fly to Sydney.

They haven't changed, flew with them last year and they are still superb. Don't, whatever you do, fly BA. They suck, big time.

Ended up in the same hotel in Singapore that the SA crews use a couple of years ago. I drooled for three days solid.........

As an alternative to Singapore Airlines (Which are very good), you might like to try going on Malaysia Airlines which are another very good Asian airline. Like Singapore, Kuala Lumpur makes a good stopover for a few days.

Having been to OZ/NZ several times on BA/Quantas, which were OK (if not great), I would recommend the Asian airlines every time. Generally you get 2 or 3 inches more leg room in economy class and the whole level of service is far superior.

The biggest factor I found was that they seem to actually turn the cabin air processing on to a decent level, which means your not gagging on stale air for 11 hours at a time. This really makes a difference when you get to your destination, you feel more refreshed and less like you have been raised from the dead.

I have only done the trip once and flew with Royal Brunei.

This page might prove useful to you with regards to legroom on different carriers.

Royal Brunei were pretty good in this respect and apart from being a dry flight (no alcohol) i would definitelty use them again if i was on a budget

Went with Japan airlines. Was ok, flight was the same as any ive been on. Had a 5 hour stop over in tokyo then our 12 connection didnt have many people on so managed to get 3 seats to lie on.
It an endurance sitting down doing nothing for 24hours, games where ok, plus i watched pretty much every film.

I've flown to Sydney with Quantas, Singapore Airlines and BA (yuck :(). SA was by far the best, however Quantas were more than agreeable :)

I went to Sydney and Auckland in the summer via BA and Qantas. The service was pretty good and BA put me up in a hotel with free food vouchers in London because my flight from Manchester to London was delayed and I missed by flight on to Sydney.

Qantas (London to Singapore to Sydney, then Auckand to Sydney to Singapore to London) had tvs with a load of tv shows and movies you could pick. I can never sleep sitting up so I pretty much watched movies the whole way through.

I've been told Emirates are the best though. Never tried Singapore Airlines.

ive been 3 times to Perth, WA with Singapore airlines

2 times we had a fuel stop in India, 3rd time we had a fuel stop in Holland

Leg room is good and the inflight entertainment system is excellent. You get to choose your own movies and the phone turns into a game controller for playing snes games. You get your own screen in the back of the chair in front and a set of headphones. Food is varied depending on your fuel stop and theres free drinks !

each time we had change of planes at Changi. You must go through changi if you can. Its an amazing airport, passenger numbers are half that of Heathrow, but the place feels enermous, and the architecture is amazing.

my dads been 5 times with singapore (his 2 brothers, 1 sister and Dad all emigrated there) and is going again this year and will fly with singapore again.
