When you bought your car, did you gulp and think *oh crap*?

at least when you fix up a house it makes it worth more and over time it appreciates.

fixing up a broken car just brings it back in the normal value and it devalues over time.

Very true, although given the current housing market trend...

It still doesn't retract from the feeling you get when stripping a wall and large holes filled with bluetack.

I researched my previous BMW 7 Series and indeed thought "oh Crap" as I drove it away, just over 2 years later after getting fed up with £450+ servicing, £expensive tyres etc I sold it on and again,I wondered if I'd got that great a deal.

Autotrader was full of similar examples at around the same money at the time so I suppose I was happy for my £2200.

Despite the car being expensive to run, I certainly was prepared for that and did not suffer any real "oh crap" moments with it i.e. I suffered no major mechanical failures with it.

Buying my subsequent Mondeo TD, I was fully aware of what I was buying, what to expect and the car has not proved me wrong at all.
Cheap mundane transport! :D

I usually spend ages researching stuff before I buy it. But I was a car noob and picked a "reputable" manufacturer and a few favourite looking cars. test drove them and got the Golf.

It's not the most popular car on here, which sucks a bit - but then everyones different and I love it so that's what matters :)

See my current insurance thread for a "gulp" moment I am now having ;)

I did,

I knew it needed a lot of work but i didnt think more and more things would go wrong and pop up in the process.

I've spent a lot on it and its not even on the road yet but i could never just sell it or scrap it like everyone told me too not when i've spent so many hours working on it :D

Strangely, I have the "oh crap" feeling every time I drive away after buying a car. No matter how certain I am of the choice and reasoning, there's always something inside me saying I shouldn't have done this.

Saying that, i'm 24 and have had 6 cars (still have 2) and haven't had any real bother with any of them. However, I'm still waiting for the Fabia vRS to blow up - my first car for years bought privately. 8k miles and nothing's wrong yet....

I can't say I've ever had that feeling - probably because I've always bought cars (whether cheap or expensive) with my head rather than my heart. Of course that has meant ending up with boring but financially sound purchases.

One day I'll buy something stupid like a Delta Integrale, have it break down 5 miles down the road and cry into the void in my wallet left by the cash it cost me.

I kinda get this with my Saxo sometimes.

Blatently should have got something bigger. Should have stuck to the 306 Hdi idea but ahh well. Saxo is fun to drive.

On the +, I haven't had to pay anything out maintenance wise on it apart from a £40 exhaust and tyres/servicing. (touches wood)

I do everytime I buy a car. Only time I didnt do it was with the 330Ci, cos I had gotten such a deal.....then like a complete idiot I went and sold it. Biggest regret ever. Still, I like speed so bought the STI. Dont regret it but Im looking to sell it now as it is only used to commute.

nope, i saved up for a year to buy my mx5 (was 17 at the time of saving) and looked into all the car options over that year and decided it was me, which it was!

i do regret spending so much on it though.

Yea, because the majority of times I've bought them blind and already paid, so I get the classic joy/sheer terror combination when it actually turns up, or I go to their house and find out what it actually is :D

It did seem slightly odd when I bought my current car (Mk4 Astra 1.8 16v SXi) when £5k came out my bank via chip and pin :D Didn't even throw up any alarm bells that made me need to phone the bank, the transaction went through first time and I just though "wow, that was slightly too easy!". Didn't feel bad about the purchase in the slightest because it was such a massive improvement over my previous N Reg 55sx Punto!

I bought a G40 once, my first of three. Driving down the motorway and 5th gear wouldn't work :(

Recently found out it was an absolute death trap, completely rotted in the inside! I got money back for it but I learnt a lot from that. Don't trust anyone!

My previous car was a bad purchase, didn't realise untill 4/5 months afterwards but I was pretty chuffed driving it home from the dealers.

Current car = smiles all round:D

I think the only time I've felt like this was when I sold the 214, especially after hearing of its demise :(

Didn't really mind selling the 220 though. As smart as it looked being driven away, I just had to see what was parked in its spot to remind me I'd done the right thing.

oops :/ :D

Nope, I felt great after picking up my S2000 :D Was no feeling of regret and had a great drive home redefining my understanding of the word revlimiter.

I just had an oh dear I've spent all my savings, that could have gone towards a deposit moment. But after a while I realized I've got the car and I love it and that the house is going to be years away anyway!

Nope didn't have any regrets. I throughly researched my options before buying at the time the Focus was the winner!

I was *this* close to buying a Corsa SXI for 4k, and yes I would have cried shortly after but it's thanks to OcUK I went for the Focus for 300 quid less!.

Nope. After driving it and having the reassurance of a warranty, plus the fact it only cost £1k more than the one I sold, I was happy :)
