When you bought your car, did you gulp and think *oh crap*?

Yea, because the majority of times I've bought them blind and already paid, so I get the classic joy/sheer terror combination when it actually turns up, or I go to their house and find out what it actually is :D

Me Too, through Fleabay, couple of great bargains, and one that was shockingly rubbish, but still the best way to buy a cheap car.

every car i've ever bought/left a deposite on i've always been proper excited about getting it, never once had second thoughts, excecpt a focus tdci and that was the most expensive at £6k..

Never had an "oh crap" moment but I never like seeing large sums of money disappear from my bank account when I buy a car.

I bought my current MR2 without actually driving it. I was totally fixated on getting a good shell knowing full well that if needs be I could fix anything mechanical and replace any panels that bolted on. We went to look at the car and I spent ages poking around it all before we got to the test drive point. Unfortunately my insurance had had expired whilst my blue MR2 had been off the road so I no longer had my TPO entitlement. As a result vix went out with the owner of the car for a quick run. When she got back I asked her how it was and she said it was fine although she had a bit of trouble getting second gear but thought it was her fault as she often had trouble in her car too.

First time I drove the car I got a few hundred yards, went to change gear as normal and my heart sank as I realised that the synchro on 2nd is completely shot. Been driving it around short shifting into second for the last couple of months whilst I wait for the weather to get decent enough for me to swap the gearbox out. I'm really looking forward to the finally being able to give this car some proper abuse from the lights :p

Whilst the gearbox problem itself doesn't bother me I'm a bit annoyed that if I'd known about it I could have used it to knock the price down even more.

Yeah I had a "what have I just done!" feeling with both my 306 and my Octavia, more so with the Octavia because the 306 was still going great when I got shot of it.

No not yet as i'm on my first car, but can imagine I may do after I get my next one thats for sure.

I felt like that, £2500 + £970 insurance is the most Ive ever spent in one go. Even though i spent ages researching and asking questions on here i still felt bad about it. At first i wished i had just got a cheap £500 car like most people do. I think what made it worse was that i paid in cash, its hard handing over an envelope with that much cash in and watching them count it :(.

Now i am really glad i spent a bit more as i have more car for my money. Plus i wouldn't of been happy paying £900 and odd insurance on a crappy car. My mate got himself a Ford Ka 1.3 and is paying £1600 insurance and paid £1400 for the car, this makes me feel a lot better :D.

about halfway up the road had a brief "so.....what on Earth am I going to do with this?" moment.

i had that whilst sitting in a mk2 golf that was being winched onto a low loader on dec 22nd, being winched due to ruined gearbox

after some fiddling, i took the car out lastnight and its a belter :D

Defiantly an "Oh crap" moment when I bought the car and two weeks later driving at national speeds the engine shut off and all electrics failed :D . Was a good miss that car!

Nope no 'oh crap moments' :)

I 'd given the seller the cash and sorted the paper work. I got in and started the 48 mile journey back to my house. Now it's mine lets see what this baby can do I thought!

Cue lots of kick-down and the surge of twin turbos boosting and the roof off hehehe :)
