I'm trying to set my sister's PC up properly with this monitor, and the largest res it is letting me do is 1024x768. I keep getting told by the monitor

All well and good, but the res I'm setting it to is in fact 1280x1024 @ 60Hz.

Anybody know what to do, other than run at a lower than native res?

I guess the FX5200 is just really poor on VGA out then...strange, thought it should be ok. Used the DVI out and it was happy to run my 19" WS at 1440x900.

It isn't that big a deal, my sister probably won't care, I think she probably ran it at a naff res anyway. May try the on board graphics card, see if it can run it at 1280x1024 then, especially if it can run at 75Hz.

FX5200 VGA does 1280x1024 surely:p Have you installed some recent NV drivers? Sounds like it's running on default MS drivers or something.

Well there is an Nvidia icon in the corner...although it probably is about 3 years old. :p

I'll sort the drivers once I've finished the windows updates she's neglected...silly woman.

  This screen really doesn't like 1280x1024 @ any Hz.

Sometimes it'll display 1024x768 @ 60-75Hz.

Hmmm, it isn't the cable as I tried a new one on it, and it isn't the graphics as I plugged the 2nd input on my screen into my sister's tower and it displays any res at any Hz.

I guess that the 913n has something wrong with it?

Im getting this same problem with the Samsung SyncMaster 913N and a 7600gt.

Just says:
Not Optimum Mode
Recommended Mode : 1280x1024 60Hz

Tried various drivers, both outputs on the card. Its a bit irritating though as its saying that Not Optimum Mode from bootup now so i cant see anything...

I'm still using mine here been on 1280x1024 @75 since day 1. I actually found that mine works better without any Samsung drivers as a plug and play device.

Yeah I'm posting using a 913N now - don't have any drivers installed for it and I'm at 1280x1024@75.

Not sure what's causing it.

I know I'm committing thread necromancy here, but there's a reason for this. Initially, after a clean install of the system, everything worked fine, however I needed to shuffle my drives at one point a bit to move data from an old unplugged drive into my new drives.
Once everything was set up properly and all the drives were plugged in properly, upon system start up the screen resolution changed to 800x600. I quickly changed that only to discover that my monitor was no longer identified but rather displayed as a generic pnp monitor and the maximum refresh rate it was running at was 60 Hz (used to work fine at 75 Hz before, now I can choose only 59 Hz or 60 Hz). Tried checking in the Catalyst Centre but no charm there either =/. Any advice will be most welcome.
