Well, i finally gave up on my 256MB 7800GTX, it just couldn't hack it to the level i wanted these days, bit the bullet and bought a 8800GT. Insanely good card for the money, CoD4, 1680x1050 full settings, 4xAA 16xAF and the frame rate is flawless. Shame the same can't be said for Crysis...

ANYWAY

Ranting aside, it came with a copy of Never Winter Nights 2. Now i've never really looked at the NWN franchise, i am a fan of games like Baldurs Gate and this does look slightly similar in some ways. Is it worth getting into? Its quite old now, should i just focus on games like The Witcher or is this one that is really worth the effort of immersing myself into it?

If it is worth playing are there any mods worth getting, any patches worth a mention?

Nwn 2 isnt old it was released early last year i think so not that old.

If you like rpgs like baldurs gate or kotor games ull like it i guess. Patches well there are a few out and a recent one too if i recall.

i bought nwn2 and played it for a bit then got really bored with it and dropped it, just bought the witcher and its miles better, but has a few problems, if everything workedthe way it should have done it would be a lot calmer experience!

Pick up the mask of the betrayer expansion for more variety. Definitely update it to the most recent patches.

I'd also highly suggest picking up Tony K's AI which significantly improves both companion and monster AI and allows for more customisation.

This is good as well Characters and spell fixes and fully compatible with the above.

I have both installed.

Its worth playing through for free, i'm glad i still went though it but it hasn't the charm of the original and basically The Witcher (which i'm currently playing) is what it should have been.

I just got back into nwn2 and am playing through the single player story for the second time and im enjoying it more than the first. Not sure why I am enjoying it more, maybe because I was expecting more the first time as i had come from nwn which was fully patched and expansion'ed up.
Ive not got MotB yet but ill defo get it in the next few days.

Dolph : Does MotB change the orgiginal campaign at all i.e going above lvl 20?

First third of the official campaign isn't all that great, but then it gets better, much better. I thought Mask of the Betrayer was excellent too. Definately worth it IMO.

Can't comment on the single player, but the co-op play was truly shocking. Probably the worst I've experienced in an RPG....and I've played most of them!

The OC is not superb but it's worth the money. And it's miles better the OC was for nwn1, about on par with HoTU I'd say.

Pick up the mask of the betrayer expansion for more variety.

Looking forward to picking it up, right after I finish the witcher, which I bought two months ago, and haven't opened yet. Damned TF2 stealing what little time I have:D

Avoid NWN2. It came free with my new 8800GTS 512MB so I though I'd stick it in and have a go. I ended up uninstalling it after about 10 mins. It is just... crap! The interface makes it harder to play than it really is, the story is generic and not told very well, the cut scenes are boring and bland... should I go on? Oh, and it runs like a dog even with its dated graphics, it gives stupid pointless error messages in Vista before it starts up and it doesn't support OpenAL and ALchemy makes it crash... ok I'll stop! :p

MotB doesn't enable epic levels in the original campaign, but you can use the new classes there.

MotB carries on the story of the knight captain, and is a much better 'story' than the OC IMO. Some people moan about the curse, forgetting that it's a key part of the plot.

The witcher has a much tighter story, but a much more restrictive character system to allow it. The trade off for NWN2's flexibility in character is a more generic story.

My only complaints about the NWN2 OC are that it frequently doesn't give you any options but combat to get out of situations, and that it has a tendancy to railroad you into lawful good or chaotic evil, and even then there's few consequences to the choice. Take the keep for example, it would have been much better if the evil path involved you taking the keep from Nasher's chosen, rather than being nasher's chosen...

NWN2 was brilliant, I'm currently playing my way through the Mask of the Betrayer. It might be worth installing that because they improved the graphics and performance of the game.

I absolutely adored NWN2... my other half just got a Leadtek 8800 GT which had it bundled and I'm pondering whether to play it through again with MotB. :)

Anyway, really great game, storyline is very engaging as is the character progression. As for the earlier comment that the Witcher is what NWN2 should have been - ick. Having played through about 5-6 hours of the game I couldn't bring myself to play through any more. The story was good, but the gameplay was horrific in my opinion.

A lot of people have said what i said, only you have said what you've said, so yes, its very much your own opinion. :p

I know a lot of people that feel the same way about the witcher as I do, and about NWN2 as I do too. So no I'm not alone in my opinion. I'm sure people do agree with your opinion too, but don't be so ignorant as to think that your opinion is the only one people agree with. :)

Just finished the OC for the second time and started on MotB today. MotB also gives access to the new spells etc in the original campaign. I've really enjoyed NWN2 but it does give the graphics card a hammering! You'll need that 8800GT!

The Witcher is on my to-do pile after MotB so I'll have to reserve judgment until then.
