Warner Bros go Blu-ray exclusive !

Doesnt Sony own rights to Blu-ray? Surely it would be impossible for MS to offer a Blu-ray add on for the 360 if it has to go through Sony first?

edit: beaten above.

The future is bright, the future is Blue :D
I would defy the most ardent HD-DVD fan to say, looking at that chart, that the future is not so rosy for their format. (Also bear in mind the 2 companies in Red only switched a few months ago to HD-DVD exclusive).

Just hope that WB bring Batman Begins to Blu-Ray soon.

Probably won't but you never know with the next one coming out this year :)

Was it ever announced how long Paramount/Universal were contracted to be HD-DVD exclusive for? I imagine they'll too want to start supporting Bluray at the earliest opportunity now.

18 months I believe - I think they have just over a year left on the deal - its around that time frame anyway

I believe the deal was for 18-24 months exclusivity from Paramount/Universal. They must be gutted around now.

It was 18 months. Their reasons for switching was because HDi was a finalised feature on HD-DVD as opposed to the unfinished equivalent on Blu-ray. The moment Universal or Paramount announce that they're going neutral then the war is truly over.

I'm fine for now as I stuck to HD-DVD because it has all the classics.

What about all of the players then?

Samsung
Sharp
Pioneer
Panasonic
Philips
LG

Anyone will be able to license the Sony/BD technology. But you have to admit it won't "look good" for Microsoft to have to license it. None of the above companies are embroiled in a console (or any other really) war with Sony, so they have no "face" to lose as such.

While there is no doubt HD-DVD is a damn fine format I'm so glad this has happened, it's only a matter of time now until Blu-ray is confirmed as the winner and its nice to see a studio going by what the public are actually putting the most support behind for once, you can't argure with the blu-ray to hd-dvd sold ratio.

Good to hear, now hopefully 'The Ultimate Matrix' boxset will get released on BD which i've been waiting for since the HDDVD one was released.

And also the $150 million dollars (allegedly) could have helped, it was announced mid august so March/April 2009 ish they will become neutral unless another "deal" happens.

I wonder if there is some sort of get out clause in case Bluray became the dominant format? $150m is not a lot compared to the revenue they could lose over the next year or so if they remain HD-DVD exclusive.
