ok got this today with a q6600

put it together and it worked at first but i wanted to do a fresh install of windows vista

thats when my trouble began

i put my dvd in and set to boot from cd/dvd
but after umpteen atempts it wouldnt seem to boot from cd

i then let it load up windows and it would just crash and reboot

so i reset the bios and after many atempts i got the vista dvd to do a system repair which didnt work

i then got vista to start to install but when i got to the part where you choose which partition to install on it only recognise 1 disk (i have 2) and it wouldnt let me install to that disk saying windows hasnt the right enviroment to install so i have to cancell the installation

any ideas anyone as its annoying me no end!

do i have grounds to rma this back to OC'uk:mad:

have come to the conclusio these boards are not very good. Mine died on me couple days ago, and after that did some searching on them. Many, many issues witht them.

Even on a competitor site, the number of Gigabyte P35 "warranty repaired" boards for sale is a fair indication there are major issues - I think mostly the BIOS though.

RMA and if you can get an Asus or something else.

Is it the P35C DS3R or regular? my P35 DS3R has worked like a charm - tho avoid the F10 BIOS update.

Also try turning off AHCI options for the IDE/SATA controller I've found it problematic, does mean you lose hot-plug and possibly NCQ but seems to make things more stable - bare in mind once you've installed windows with AHCI on/off you can't switch back to the other mode (tho might be possible with vista).

i got a P35-DS3R with a Q6600, no problems with mine what so ever, cpu is clocked to 3.6 and it runs stable 24/7.

how does your cd/dvd drive connect to motherboard? ide or sata? havent had vista on mine so i dont no if thats the problem

thanks for the reply ffalic ...just tried a linux live cd and tried to install ubuntu and no go

defo a dodgy motherboard/bios problem

done a few builds now and you always have a few teething problems but nothing like this

Heard of more than one instance of boards that have been working perfectly fine just stop working the second or third restart after the update... if yours has been working fine after several reboots then your probably ok... personally I'm not gonna take the chance especially as I have no problems with F9.

could you find out for me which version of the board you have? there seems to be 3 versions 1.0, 2.0 and 2.1 and I'm wondering if either the 2.0 or 2.1 version is fubar as I've been reccomending the P35 DS3R as I have a version 1.0 board thats really nice but I don't wanna give friends duff reccomendations if they are now sending out bad boards.

Mine was Rev 1 and died little while after the F10 BIOS was loaded.

Is not just F10 BIOS though. Many people who have only had PC couple days have started there PC only to find it is stuck in some kind of endless power-up/power-doan cycle.

Just a search on google for something like "gigabyte ds3r reboot cycle" or something like that will bring it up.

Hmm googling that a lot of the boards with the reboot cycle problem are the P35C DS3R and I've heard of nothing but bad stories on the P35C boards...

I called OCuk tech support; they asked me two questions about trying out the RAM and no post and knew straight away the motherboard had to be RMAed. This is probably a widespread issue. I hope they repair the boards instead of sending back a new one that will probably be faulty again.

I have a rev 1 board and have had no major issues at all and I'm running RAID as well. I think the reason that a lot of problems are apparent with this board, is because so many people have it! Honestly, it is a great budget overclocking board with good features so a LOT of people have bought this over the Asus equivalent etc.

As for the BIOS issues. The "issues" started at BIOS F9. There is no major issue with this other than it can give false memory test errors at a certain pattern. This also occurs in BIOS F10. The fix for these BIOS's I believe were related to providing compatability with some newer 1TB drives. I personally have found none of the BIOS's more stable over the other and that they all offer the same stability and overclock for me. People get to hyped about BIOS's imo. They are there just to provide a few minor fixes if you look at the changelog on the Gigabyte website.

Watch the voltage that the memory is at at stock. There is controversy over what the board runs memory at stock at. Some say 1.8, some say 1.9. Some ram requires more and hence people get problems right form the go with memory when trying to install OS.

As said, check if you are setup top run native/legacy IDE / AHCI / RAID. The mode you want to run at needs to be selected before you install OS or you will have problems.

I would try one stick of ram and minimal things plugged in. I would try to get XP on there first just to rule out Vista issues as well.

Anyone knwo how I go about RMAing this board? Where on Bigabyte site can I get this info? Have looked but can not find. HAve asked there support via email, but as yet had no response.
