What's your car's annoying foibles?

So now I'm wondering why reverse is a bitch to engage on the Ford IB5 yet I have never been faced with the issue on other cars with different gearboxes...

I have a new shape Fiesta and its almost impossible to engage reverse without a crunch. Only way is after gym when im feeling particularly strong and pull hard towards me.

Very little. Only fuel consumption (mainly due to my driving) and jap parts are expensive. There's not much wrong with it at all. The only thing would be suspension is too soft.

The world famous e46 handbrake squeel!

Apply handbrake after parking and rock the car either side - you will hear a squeek!

Heated seats automatically lower the temp over time to the minimum setting, it seems to base the length of time on the outside temp also which winds me up again.

Is this a mercedes, this winds me up so much and is one of the few things wrong with my car :(

Exactly the same, they go boiling hot, but damnit i want it boiling hot the whole way not until it decides ive had enough :(

I cant really think of any for my focus, maybe i haven't had it long enough to notice any. Well the design for the flash main beam could be better as Ive blinded a few people as it tends to stay on.

The seats i find really comfy, unlike my mates Ka hes just got :D.

No rattles at all and its an X reg ford, theres a bit of tyre rumble on the motorway but this could be the crappy tyres fitted.

first thing on cold mornings, it can be a bit odd. you pull away from a standstill with almost no throttle input, the revs slowly climb, and then it goes berserk and starts pulling you down the road.

i need uprated ARBs.

thats about it

My Volvo does this, seems to be warm for 10 minutes then it drops right down.

Solution for reverse being difficult to engage:

Give it a bit of gas in neutral, then try engaging reverse. I don't know why it works, but it does - my driving instructor taught me this trick.

Dash and Centre console creaks over some bumps, I just turn my stereo up now and I cant hear it.

better solution; adjust clutch cable?

Not everyone knows how to do such things and little tricks like that help, will try it when i get back home next weekend :)

Pop it in third then into reverse works too, depends on the gearbox though.

I just put it into neutral. Depress the clutch (slowly) then come back off (slowly) and it goes in fine. Had to do this in my driving instructor's car a few times, now whenever it doesn;t feel like reverse is in properly in my car I just do this, and it feels better next time ;)

In order of annoyance
  • It's hesitating badly and has a lumpy idle at the moment when it's warm (i.e. if I drive somewhere, stop and then start it again). Changed the plugs and the MAF sensor. New MAF seemed to do the trick, but I think it's knackered again after the string holding it up snapped and it bonked against the wheel arch. Really fed up with it.
  • My indicator stalk is absolutely awful. It clicks off randomly halfway around a roundabout and doesn't cancel when I want it to. Apparently all S14a's are like that though because Bear has the same problem.
  • The headlights are shocking.
  • It's a saloon. Hatchbacks are just soooo much more useful.
  • The passenger side seatbelt sometimes throws a paddy and won't pull out of its holder. You have to give it a minute to recompose itself and then it's fine.
  • Rear calliper sometimes sticks and could do with a rebuilt really.
