Us console gamers have had a great year, but which to choose as my game of the year?
COD4 for it's brilliant graphics, excellent storyline, breathtaking set-pieces and cut-scenes, atmospheric voice acting and ultra intense gameplay? What about Mario Galaxy for it's complete redefinition of the genre? Or Bioshock for it's superb art direction, excellent storyline and immersiveness?
I've played all these games and adored them, COD4 was a complete surprise to me and I was completely overwhelmed by how intense the gameplay is, and Bioshock had me sitting down at 8am some weekend mornings as I simply 'had to' see what was around the next corner.
I am, however, going to choose Crackdown as my game of the year. I played it to death and loved every minute of it - the massive free-roaming city, superb weapons and daft super-hero powers made it an absolute joy to play, either alone or with friends, a masterpeice.
I will just add that usually it's the most recent games that seem to win these awards, Crackdown was out in February so no wonder it's fallen off the radar of many players - especially after such a bumper year.
