Low Energy Lightbulbs : Mercury

Mercury is perfectly safe in the human body. I had a mercury based implant in my spine to cure a curve as a kid. Only drawback is I grow a few inches when it gets hot :D

Probably they've just found another money spinner/tax, the disposal of "dangerous" lightbulbs, probably cost more than the bulb ;)

Ouch. Me and one of my friends went through a stage of stealing them from our local weatherspoons. We'd usualy stab them at each other until they broke.

What bothers me more is the fact these are being made compulsory, yet there is evidence they can lead to an increase of migraine attacks in sufferers (such as myself).

I watched that report and they stated that the Government wanted rid of all 'normal' light bulbs by 2011.

The first thing that came to mind was what about those with dimmer switches? I'm sure many of us have them (mine works via my TV remote - lazy git!) and I won't be replacing it just because energy saving bulbs are incompatible.

And yes, I am very bored tonight ;)

the hazards of batteries has been well known, and publicised for years. Unfortunately the general public ignore the advice and still throw batteries in with general waste.

I think if it was easier to recycle them then more people would, you see glass and paper bins in most places but facilities for batteries are rarer and harder to get to (eg. not in the supermarket carpark).

I think a lot more people would recycle batteries and 'WEEE' waste if there was a collection for that sort of stuff, even if it was only like once every few months. Things like printers, monitors and computers don't last forever and not everyone knows what to do with them.

The bulb contains Mercury :D

The "green box" I'm given in Bristol will take batteries.
