eta on 3870 x2?

I've just sold my 2 x 3870s and X38 board. If you plan to run at 1920x1200 with AA or AF (any level really) then don't bothered with the 3870 as the performance impact is monumental. No AA or AF and they do pretty well, a few % over a single 8800gtx

At any rate, I'll wait till I see benchmarks of the new 3870X2 in single & crossfire to see how it rates up against Nvidia.

Sensible approach lol :)

I am so glad you said that , thought it was just me .

looks like the 9800GX2 and 3870X2 are coming out either end of this month if not early Feb, looks like there just gonna compete against each other for quite a while yet......

Reckon 2 x 3870x2s may scale and perform better ;)

I'll be getting 2x 3870x2 along with x48. I would prefer the 9800's in sli but nvidia's rehash of a mobo is further evidence of profiteering with little inovation.

Hopefully this intel vs nvidia debacle will end soon and we can all get the perfect setup, until then its intel/ATI for me.

Yeah looks like the 2x 3870's on the 1x PCB is going to be the way to go, not like Nvidia's rebodged 7950 GX2 again, would have thought they would have learned from that, but no, slapping 2x PCB's together yet again, could this be a turning point for AMD. :)

Have you even tried a 780i board????

As AMD's new flagship, we see that this is not the HD3870 X2 version of the card, but by the manufacturers Shuangmin pathway offered by Promise high-end graphics, Shuangmin abandon the whole public review board cooling design, but chose to install two separate open-core radiator and thus better cooling effect:

NVIDIA and the 7950 GX2 different HD3870 X2 is not a pair of PCB design, and graphics length is not an exaggeration, and the size of its opponent's top graphics 8800GTX/Ultra is almost the same, so you need not worry about whether installed in the chassis of problems.

Dual fan can easily solve two core of 16 memory and a PCI-E chip heat control, and noise than the high-power version of the single turbofan lower, but shortcomings in the residue is still hot air chassis, the chassis This gamers to a higher cooling ventilation requirements.

Basically, it is fitting the two HD3870, independent power supply modules, needs two 6 Pin PCI-E power supply interface, occupying two PCI slots, as this high-end graphics card is not an exaggeration.

From this perspective, we can see clearly that R680 with a modern 0.8 ns GDDR4 memory, each core opposed to 512 MB 256Bit, the card is 1 GB 512Bit. In addition the center of the card is PCI-E controllers, two RV670 core through its link up to share data and exchange PCI-E 2.0 X16 interface.

Shuangmin Promise R680 graphics detailed parameters:

Core: RV670XT X 2 (double-HD3870)
Memory: 1024 M 0.8ns GDDR4
Frequency: 775 MHz/2250MHz
Stream Processor: 320 X 2
Power ports: 6 PIN X 2
Output ports: DVI X 2 + HDTV-OUT
Features: support DX10.1, integrated UVD HD decoder engine, support for PCI-E 2.0 bus, support HDMI output

for non-Chinese speaking people, the list after 3Dmarks are: CoD4, Age of Empire 3, HL2 ep2, Lost Planet, Company of Hero: OF and Bioshock (from top to bottom)

looks interesting.

hynix ram though :p I hope some manufacturers choose to use samsung or something of more quality

Now weve finally got a comparison pic i wonder if people will still go on about how "HUGE" the card is despite it being posted 50,000 times in any thread concerning the card that it was about the same length as a gtx.

Great that the 6 pin connections are at right angles on what looks to be the retail board, I couldn't stand having them on the underside like the "engineering" ones, and the card definitely isn't huge by the looks of those comparison shots, it seems a lot shorter than before. Can't wait for this one :D

Can't wait for this card, absolutely drooling at the prospect of getting one of these inside my case. :D

Impressive numbers for Crossfire as well. I told you all that ATi had the driver side of things down to a tee. :)

And that is what you can expect with 1x 3870x2 , just think what 2x 3870x2 will get you if they get the 4 way gpu scaling as good.

:D I hope that results table is true for 1 x 3870X2 :D

It states Memory: 1024 M 0.8ns GDDR4 so can I presume thats 1GB fully? or 2 x 512MB? I'm just wondering how much we will actually be able to use 512MB or 1024MB?

1GB of Texture ram would benefit me because I run 2 accounts of EverQuest at 1900x1200 resolution & I can easily run out of 768MB of texture ram & the game starts using up my DDR2 to compensate.

I don't want to get my hopes up like when the 2900XT came out, but I hope it wipes the floor with whatever Nvidia has to offer! always been a ATI fan, although I've been quite happy with the Nvidia 8800GTX it's my 1st Nvidia card for 7 years lol :D
