When it comes to upgrade to Penryn very soon, I'll most likely be getting a dual core penryn, maybe a quad core penryn and I want a new CPU cooler, I've got 2 above but which one would be the best? Apparently the Ultra-120 Extreme is the best but I dont see how its smaller

Any other recomendations if those are not good.

Thanks
Willz.

Will, we got the same GPU, we went and bought the same case now you are buying a new heatsink and I just ordered the TRUE on Thursday :D

Are you gonna buck the trend :)

haha, I dunno, I just want a new cooler because in intel TAT my CPU gets to 70 degrees at 3.4Ghz 1.47V whilst in orthos it only gets to 60, also I'm not Intel TAT stable , I thought my CPU was stable at 3.4 but its only stable in Orthos and games, BSOD within mins on Intel TAT

I currently have an Antec P182, OCZ Vindicator cooler with fast 120mm fan on or so I think and I'm getting 70 degrees at 3.4Ghz 1.47V in Intel TAT :(.

I know mate, I know your entire spec and every piece of hardware you have owned, I know you like stickers and have strange habit of playing with your subwoofers lol :D

Thats right, INTEL TAT heats up a processor like nothing else, there is no way you will ever get the CPU that hot in actual use. Are you sure you fitted the heatsink properly when you changed over to the P182? Was this a problem you noticed in your last '80mm/removable mobo tray' case?

Your current cooler doesn't look to bad so getting those temps something isn't right?

Loool I feel like I'm been watched :p

Well I reseated it before, used the method of just a little thin line down the middle with thermal paste like AS5 say so I dunno whats up

How much paste do you use? I'd have a go at re seating it but I dare not mess about I mean would have to take mobo out and abit worried about trying to put a cooler on a motherboard that is loose and not secured.

Dont suppose you got some decent 120mm fans laying around? :p

Why is your motherboard loose and not secured?

I take it your have never owned a Thermalright heatsink Will? they are really good, once you got the backplate installed its dead easy to attach the heatsink, even with the motherboard still in your case. I gather the Tuniq is very similar in regards to fitting.

The last TRU unit I used did have quite a bad concaved base and need lapping, this is not the sort of quality I normally expect from Thermalright however if the TRUE I recieve this week has a dodgy base I will lap it, thats not a problem for me but if you never lapped anything before it may freak you out!

I've not used a Tuniq before but for sure it is more bulky than a TRUE, I'm not sure how easy it will be to install and re-install in your P182 but maybe someone who has used both can comment further.

I have a Tuniq Tower 120 and fitting was very easy. with the board still in the case (therma armour case). I had to take the 8800 GTS out thats all.

If I had the money I would buy a TRUE just to see if it is better than the Tuniq.

Is it easier than the vindicator to put in and not using standard intel crap clips?
Yup its very easy, some may balk at having to remove their motherboard the one time to stick-on the backplate but once that is done you are sorted. The heatsink base literally sits flat directly on the CPU (take your hands away at this point and its just sitting there) you then just feed the screws down through the bracket into the screw wholes sticking up through the mobo, do one corner a little, do the diagonal corner a little etc. You just go round tightning spring loaded screws until the stop (and they do just stop).

I thought the Tuniq also featured a backplate?

Lol same, except I would buy a Tuniq just to see if it was better than a TRUE! :D

Yes the Tuniq has a BP. After the first install, I didnt have to take the board out.

But I have also cut a big hole in the bac so I can get to the BP aswell.

A thermalright 120 fits in the antec 900 case so should fit in the Antec 182.
Yup it does fit in a P182, I tested it last night, there is about 2-3mm between the upper most bit of heatipipe and the inside of the case panel, its close for sure but I don't see how it could be a problem?
