Check out the size of these dumplings!

Does anyone think this recipie would be quite nice if you replaced the pint of water with a pint of dark ale? and replaced the wine for a bit of water

Yup it can be and I've done it with Guinness before :)

But Feek asked for something simple to cook his kids and they would probably have snubbed the Guinness stew :(

Sounds like a plan for me this evening then :) and how could any children of the great beer master snub a good ale based stew :p

Yummi dumplings.
Any one got any decent recipes for a good stodgy dumplings. Everyone seems to like all these silly light and fluffy dumplings argghh.
two parts flour to one part beef suet, then add enough water to make a soft dough you can roll into balls. Add a good pinch of salt, black pepper and a pinch of dried herbs. Drop into the stew about 20 minutes to half hour before the end. Edit: stickier dough than Feek made and it will be a bit stodgier when it's cooked.

Im half way through cooking mine :D replaced the water with a pint of McEwans Champion then added a little hot water with the oxo dissolved in it and its smelling good, no dumplings though :( just gonna go with nice simple mash as its serving the house and my pans not big enough

This has given me a craving for dumplings but I can't be bothered to cook stew for two hours tonight. Perhaps I could just cook dumplings in tinned soup to get my saturated fat and flour fix without too much effort :D

Used that recipe for dumplings, but tehy still were bnot heavy enough. What is it taht makes heavy dumplings, suet, flour?

The stew was great. I did a soy stew.

Onions, chicken, carrots, turnip, chilli, water. loads of ginger, star anise, 5 spice, coriander, soy sauce, cherry vinegar, sugar.

You could try more water and spoon then in all slippy like. They will cook and bind together when they go in the hot liquid rather than break up. What flour did you use, self raising or plain? Self raising will always puff up a bit because of the bicarb in it.
