Has anyone here flown with US Airways? We were planning on going with BA again but their prices seem to be pretty hurrendous compared to the other airlines.

I'm not paying for premium class :p so if you have flown in economy then please post here.:)

I think I have used them in the past to get them to chicago. They're nothing special, but I got a dinner and breakfast and a good sleep which did the job.

I keep on getting offers from KLM for transatlantic flights, maybe have a look with them too? Could be cheaper..

Go with Virgin if you can they're far better than US airways - though they might not do direct flights... In which case I'd choose US Airways over BA anyway! They're ok, if a little "basic" but that was about 3 years ago now.

I love Aer-Lingus cheap and they look after you.
I catch the flight from Birmingham to JFK
you do have to stop and changed at Dublin.

The other one I like is Virgin from Manchester.

I flew with BA from Heathrow to Philly, then US Airways from Philly to Orlando. 1 thing that I did like about US Airways was that even though we missed our connecting flight due to a delay at Heathrow, they did everything they could to help us out. US aren't too bad, if you go to seatguru you can check the seat pitch and other stuff which helps out.

Word of warning about Philly airport, the baggage handlers there aren't the quickest people in the world, waited nearly an hour for our bags to finally appear, took half an hour before the first bag actually appeared :(

Apart from that it's a nice airport at least.

They are the best going for transatlantic economy ( assuming you get a A330 and not a 767 ) , seat pitch is better than all the others , IFE good , only downside is you pay for booze

their domestic flights are pretty crud though, the planes have seen much better days

US had better seating than Virgin but Virgin has better service , I would choose US over Virgin anyday

I would choose swimming it over BA :D

As long as nothing goes wrong they're supposed to be quite good. If something goes wrong, especially when over the water, don't expect much help from them. A colleague of mine has had quite a few nightmare experiences with them and has been left stranded numerous times.

I would agree with avoiding Delta but United are nothing special , TBH most transatlantic airlines are crap, wish they would learn from the Far East ones

Very true. I have found US Airways the best of the worst ;) It's good that Emirates are doing some transatlantic flights now though, hopefully that will give the rest a kick up the ass

I've flew from Manchester to Philladelphia on an A330 and found I had plenty of room, polite and attentive staff and great inflight service. Although the drinks weren't free like Virgin, it wasn't an issue as I was driving once I got there

I went last year before BA added their fuel surcharges on so it was fairly cheap. Bags were pretty quick but it was a Saturday afternoon so the airport was pretty quiet anyway.

Sounds good. The US Airways flight does use the A330. The good thing about US is they go directly in to PHL. I'd also use Virgin if we decide to go into NY as they've got offers but it's just a pain to get back to New Jersey as we weren't planning on hiring a car.

I've not done US to Philly but have BA Heathrow to Philly a few times. My parents have done US from Gatwick to PHL once in an emergency, never again they said (i.e. would have to be a HELL of an emergency!).

BA aren't bad, but as I said, I can't compare. I've also found it takes ages to get the luggage at Philly, so before they messed about with the cabin luggare rules we used to stuff all we needed into a rucksack each.

I feel the same about BA - however I prefer decent service. Leg room isn't too bad on Virgin really even at 6'1". Problem is I am a bit wide :p

I found legroom on the Virgin A340 an absolute nightmare and I'm 5'10" with short legs. The 744 was fine though.
