Morning All,

Long time lurker - new poster in motors!

I currently own a '55 plate VW Polo SE 1.2 55ps (i know.. feel the power!)which I bought second hand and my finance is due up in March of this year (hefty deposit and 24 payments).

I'm thinking about part exchanging my current polo for either a new 1.4 polo or a fiesta or a corsa. I dont have to use a car for work, and on the rare occasion that I do - they normally hire one - so I dont need a motorway muncher...

I've got my mind set on a small car - so please no cries of "what d'you want a girls car for!? get a mondeo..." My only problem is which one to get!?

I really like my VW - it drives really well considering its a 3-cylinder - but I've had my boy racer days previously and now want to continue with another sensible little car to keep for a couple of years..

Also bear in mind that I'm open to suggestions - so if you have any other alternatives except the Kia Picanto, I'd be happy to hear them.

Obviously a test drive is a must and I'll do this as soon as I narrow down my options.

Cheers! :)

A fiesta would do the job nicely. However, seriously don't buy a new one. At least go for second hand with <10,000 miles on and you'll save yourself thousands.

Keep the polo, unless you have cash to burn. Not much point going from a 1.2 Polo to a 1.4.

Nice wee cars aswell.

It's only 2 years old. Unless you are going to make a worthwhile upgrade then don't bother changing.

Changing to a new shopping trolley isn't a worthwhile upgrade in case you were wondering, especialy given the cost and the money you will lose through depreciation.

Right -thanks chaps - think I'll probably stick with it - especially with t'price of petrol sky rocketing!

@Scuzi - cant tell whether thats a VW Dig or not!! :) But cheers for your comments!

Probably a good call in the end!

Cheers,

I got a new corsa (07) on thursday, I love it. Just wanted a new car that gets me from A to B and looks nice doing it (had a corsa before but it was falling apart).

Corsa's are apparantly holding their values quite well at the moment, so i'll probably look to move it on for a bigger car in a couple of years when I start my career.

Pretty much exactly what Fox said - in regards to rippers post.

And to the OP - don't bother getting a new car, seriously. Small cars are generally a rip off. Brand new small cars are definately a rip off.

So why spend thousands and thousands and thousands on a Corsa?

I didn't.

Your previous Corsa fell apart so you... bought another?

Jeez...

It was an old car that served me well for four years. It's nice to drive and I had no problems with it upto the last MOT. We managed to get £2500 from the dealer for it when he originally only offered 1.9k so it was best to get rid then really.

And as for the new Corsa, I like it, which is good enough reason for me.

What? So how much was it?

If it was still worth £2500 it cannot have been THAT old. Therefore, to be falling apart implies exceptionally poor levels of quality. So you rewarded Vauxhall for this poor quality by buying another one?

I used to like water until I tasted something better..

I'm sorry but that sort of money on a 1.2 litre Corsa is just daft. If you only want to get from A to B in comfort and you dont really care about performance etc etc then thats absolutely fine but.. why spend all that money? You can get reliable, decent cars for loads less.

Sorry, parents were the ones that spent thousands not me.

I originally wanted an Astra, but mum kinda pressurised me into having this after they seen it and I knew she would have been "disapointed in me" if I turned it down. Fortunately when I seen it in the flesh I decided I liked it anyway.

As I said above, i'll keep this for 2/3 years (2 years of uni and 1 of job[hopefully{stupid bracketing system}]) and then look to get a bigger car.
