Quiet Nvidea 8800 GT

It didn't, only if it got over 100 degrees i believe, or if it had been about 90 degrees for a long long time. I increased mine by 10% or so which gave an incredible boost :)

Anyone got any noise info on the zalman fan on the gigabyte turbo edition? I cant find any info on it.

Whilst i like low temps i would prefer no/low noise and higher temps

Mine seems to get louder by itself :) Never crashes though

I have played with the riva tuner stuff but i don't pay much attention to the temperature, maybe i should :)

Hey Geeza, I have no info on the cards using 3rd party coolers but if you didn't pick up on my hint, the new cards featuring the updated cooler will keep you happy, I'm pretty picky when it comes to noise and I have RMA'ed cards in the past just for that reason but that isn't the case with the new single slot, don't worry about it and you should be fine.

How do you feel about 'modding' the card to use a Arctic cooler btw?

I feel fine about it and have one it on my X1800XT.

It just contemplating whether to buy a gigabyte turbo edition that comes with the zalman for £150inc. I only really play COD4 multiplayer at the moment and am going travelling for a year in a month or so too. Im just trying to work out if its worth getting if i sell my X1800XT and keep the GT for another 3 years.

Agreed on the ASUS 8800gt. Got mine last week, came with the huge new fan and its very quite, even after playing Crysis for 2 hours.

My Leadtek one is quite, I think any of the ones with the latest fan revision should be quiet, the overclocked ones may also be a bit noisier, not sure though.

i got the leadtek one on ocuk ‘this week only’ – it has a bigger fan than reference cards – it runs quietly playing crysis and doesn’t overheat if you get your fan placement right
Overclocks fairly well too if you are after that as a feature

Thanks for the input. I'll investigate the Sparkle and Gigabyte further. The Gigabyte GT6600 I have at the moment has a passive heat sink, its reliable, but gets too hot to touch.

Mick

Hi geeza, wanted to ask if you could control your fan speed through rivatuner or even monitor the temp.

I have the new asus 8800gt with the new big round cooler, not as quite as i thought it would be, it be easily heard over my other case fans (antec P182 case, with tricool fans on medium).

I've got the gigabyte turbo edition, comes pre clocked 700 core, 1700 shader and 950 memory. Idles @ 40oC and hits mid 60's under load. Fan spins at a constant speed.

Not sure, hopefully ill know on friday. Being dispatched on thursday when they say they will have stock in

If i were you i'd cancel your order and save the money for travelling, £150 in most other countries will get you so much more than here in the UK.

Yeh thats what i was thinking. But i found one for £20 cheaper and my mate said when i go he will probably buy it off me. Wont be gone until mid feb (almost certainly later) so i might aswell get a couple of months use out of it them sell it to him or ebay it.

Also going to be at home for a few weeks so might try and complete crysis again or something :)
