Anyone have a Sony X3500?

Thanks again :)

Its exactly what i expected actually.

I was waiting so patiently for the le40f86bd for the "100hz mode" but in actual fact i'm getting more and more sure that its this one that i'm after, its just a bit too expensive yet!

Id assume the 100Hz is usefull for PAL or 50HZ as then it doubles the refresh rate. But what with 60Hz and 24Hz movies?
Also im confused how the 100Hz helps/improves gaming, care to explain as the console or PC determines how the game feels and dictates its framerate.
Video internally processed reduces eye flicker or motion blur but not much else.

Soya
8800GTS in 1080p for Crysis at high settings, theirs no way your getting good framerates (guessing 25fps or so)
Chances are youd be better to run it at 720p?

The 100hz stuff is a bit misleading its not the same technology utilised in CRTs. Sony have decided to label it "Motionflow 100hz" its their implentation of Dark Frame Insertion( MCFI - motion compensation frame interpolation).

Detailed explanation here:

Above review tests effect on various modes and seems be quite positive.

Will read into those.
* It seems similar to what my PJ can do in reducing the response time for gaming. This reduces ghosting but it also has an effect or reducing full quality picture. Therefore its not recommended for movies. Maybe why Soya prefferred it for gaming if they both act in a similar way.

I bought and still have the first ever top of the range Bravia HDTV model in the living room. I found that an awfull lot of the tv wizard electronics was best left off. Not because it didnt do as it was suppossed to but each so called picture enchancing feature all had their own digital artifacts/issues.
Too much processing just can sometimes create its own problems.

Ive read some reviews on the X3500 range and know full well this once again is much like mine in that it has a lot of so called technology but quite often its best left off.

Its a lot of money to spend, also bear in mind all the different brands new models will be arriving in May-June.

I have used the x3000 for about 3 weeks now, spending plenty of time adjusting and tweaking the settings to my liking. I believe this to be crucial to get the most out of any TV. Having spend plenty of time trying out different settings, including the 100Hz option, I personally found that using 100Hz at high setting is best for Video Graphics, ie PC/Xbox games, whereas for HD content(720P+ recorded movies etc) it best left off as otherwise it looks like you are watching the movie as if it was recorded by a camcorder, not worse quality though, but it looks more like a news broadcast or a sitcom (I believe most sitcoms are recorded more then 24frames). So I would agree that it is best left off with HD content, for analogue stuff I found that I got better results using 100Hz at standard settings. In the end, the more you can tweak the setting of a TV, the more likely you will adjust the picture to your personal liking and the Sony has plenty of options you can tweak.

Going back to Crysis, apart from upgrading my TV over Xmas I also purchased a MSI 8800GTS 730Mhz model, upgrading from my 2 year old, iirc, ATI X1900XTX. I just ran Crysis benchmark at 1920x1200, everything High, No AA, 3 loops, I got 29.77 fps. But the most interesting test is running clone mode, so desktop is showing on both Sony and Dell, running Crysis Benchmark at 1920x1080, All High, No AA, 3 loops. On the first run I switched off the 100Hz on the Sony and viewing both the Dell and Sony it looked identical, but on the 2nd run I switched the 100Hz to high and it really show a big difference, much better and smoother imo. I know the 100Hz is more like 'visual trickery', it is not physically making games run smoother or faster, but from a visual perspective, ie. what you see on the screen (which is really what matter anyways), it simply looks better, so I would say, 100Hz on the Sony is deffo worth the extra money. Also another very useful option for gaming, I found that the option called 'Detail Enhancer' also makes a positive impact on the viewing pleasure of gaming, making, esp distant object, looks much clearer.

As for new models coming out, not 100% sure but I do recollect that the X3000-x3500 will the top of the Sony range at least till end of 2008/start of 2009. I do not think they will be superceded by May-June, but I could be wrong.

Cheers.

Thanks on the input regards the card and crysis. It totally blows me away too in V-HIGH, looks awesome total visual feast and i wish i wasnt restricted to my 80" screen, though i cant complain as only sitting 6 feet away from it. 1080p in games or movies looks majestic and even moreso with bigger n bigger screens. Still im gonna have to wait till a single card appears that plays the game well in 1080p with maximium detail before i get around to really playing it.

Do you know how the X series handles 24Hz. Does it display it at 24,48,72 or 96khz? Wondered if the manual mentioned it. Id agree that the X series is a great display for PC and gaming. Plasma to me still in most cases does a better job with SD material and well if i was buying today id still find it hard to decide between a Sony or Panasonic or Pioneer Plasma.

Regards new models, the X series is really what the USA had last year. Even if Sony wont be releasing till about October Pioneer, Panasonic and other brands will. Sonys next models will offer even more styling and 120HZ with full deep colour compatibility with im sure more tweaks.

For any potential buyers between now and April prices will keep dropping on current models but sometimes its worth forking out a couple of hundred quid to get the new and sometimes better models.

MAY-JUNE and OCT-NOV are usually in the time frames for new models for various brands

Anyone else notice the 32xbr6 on that list? 32" , 100hz that clearly smoothens out games (sony) + 1080p. That'll wipe the floor with the current tft's for pc use imo but then so it should for the price they'll charge :D

IS the 46 version of the x3500 the one for ~£2400. If it is, i saw one playing casino royale blu ray in their store last weekend. Looked pretty special to be honest, but still nothing compared to the 50 kuro, which is only a little more expensive for a better picture and another 4 inches.
