People on Jobseekers Allowance forced to work for their money...

I think immigration is a bigger problem ,what are they going to do about that 
Yeah, I've had that too. It's a Catch22 situation, as if you lie on the CV, like say leave your degree off, and they find out later they can sack you for it. Yet if you mention your full education you can get the "over qualified" crap!

I was made redundant in September after working 27 years at the same place.
All together I've worked for 33 years without ever being on the dole.
Even before that I did a paper round for 2 years.
I'm 4 months into claiming JSA and last week I was called for a meeting basically treating me like dog poo.
They now want to see me again in another month to see what I've done about getting a job.
I look around me at Jobseekers (and outside) and there are people who will never work.
I've actually lost my temper at Jobseekers 3 times now because of the way they've talked to me as though I'm some scrounging scum.
I wouldn't mind but £54 doesn't go a long way.

This probably will not happen, at least not in the manner being presented, for the reasons Werewolf mentioned. It will cost more to enforce, administer and run than the current system of free hand-outs so where is the benefit to anyone?

Checked yesterday they had NO IT jobs within a 30 mile radius.
There are poles are brothers work that slog for hours at a time without breaks, going from one job to another. Usual salary in Poland is £20 a week. So of course with 20x the salary work hard. Wouldn't you?? If you were offered half a million pounds a year for the same job as what you have now, you'd put your back into it.
Not only that, he says 90% of it goes back to his family in Poland, so in fact the UK is losing money as it's not going through usual trade.
It doesn't make UK residents look bad, however it is taking advantage of 2nd world countries wage system.

I had mine last week.
I was informed that I wasn't doing as much as they'd like to find work. This was despite EVERY fortnight for the past 3 months asking each time more of those those 'proof of job search' forms because it was full of details of websites, papers, recruitment agencies etc.
I was asked why I'd not approached a company direct. In otherwords, similar to a building site job, they now expect me to go door to door to companies in the area, knock on the door, ask to see the manager and say "Excuse me, do you need a new member of staff?"!
I kid you not, next week when I sign on again, if I don't have proof that I've attempted to contact 3 or more companies I may have my JSA suspended because I'm not doing enough.
As has been said above in a few posts, I'm quite prepared to take almost any job on offer, but getting 'any' job when you've a career behind you is damn difficult because people ask you why the change and are bothered that you'll switch back to your previous career when something else comes along.
But do they really expect that total strangers just go into offices and ask to speak to the manager without any prior appointment?
Well call me old fashioned, but I just think that's bloody ignorant. Or am I been a bit narrow minded over it.

They jump to the front of the housing lists when they arrive.
A article in our local paper said that 50% of local jobs have to go to immigrants .

When I have to work a crap job, I just explain to people if they say I might get "bored," "I'm never too bored to earn a living a support my family.) The manager at the crap resteraunt I worked at in bluewater seemed to appreciate that attitude. (and I was hired back in 2003 when I first moved here from America)
It will cost money to run but the idea is it will get people off JSA, why work your ass of for £50 when if you got a minimum wage job you might still be working your ass of but you are going to get more money, at the moment JSA is the better option half the time.
Also the administration creates jobs that didn't before exist, and it is just the damn principal of the matter and the way this attitude spreads, if your mum and dad don't work how likely is it that the kids are going to end up at Uni or are they just going to follow their mum and dads footsteps because they will see it as normal.
Wrong, you need to have been stopped claiming for 13 weeks before its treated as a new claim.

i had this also, every two weeks they ask of proof of what you done, in my case they just accepted that i had been in to search the jobcenter database or done it online and looked through local papers and rang companies in my line of work. Also as there was no jobs in my field of work (wood machinist) of which i have city&guilds and took 3yrs to achieve and pass they then after 6 months just classed me as unspecified worker.......wtf!. Also not once did anyone from that place help in trying to find me anything even when asked as i was over the age for new deal and wasn't on JSA long enough to gain help which had to be 18 months. In the end i quit signing on after 14months and became a house husband and my wife went full time.
It gets treated as a rapid reclaim before then. Not quite what you said.
