lol I laugh at the days of planetarion and empire quest (text based rts) and the guilds I was in lol. all the irc commands I had learned for chat, making bots etc lol, emailing people ingame to stop an incoming fleet on a planet lol!

"you have been warned please abort your fleet" was a popular one hahaha god that is bad.

was some good moments, I READ 3 million ships get destroyed when they tried attack my guild mates planet and we was a guild of 250 members and each sent a million of our own.

anyway then there was halo 1 clans on gamespy and xbc. those were the best days for me and online gaming. then halo 2 clans. after that I just got bored.

Yeah, I played in a variety of Quake 3 clans back in the day, used to do the CPL and Clanbase cups.

At one point we were 3rd(ish) best clan in the Barrysworld league.

Wrong forum but yes. Spent too many years playing cs1.6 and going to LAN's here there and everywhere. Once I got with my girlfriend my interest dropped completely, good job really because I'd spend 6 hours a night playing the stupid thing.

If you want to play a multiplayer game and do well, most of the time, unless it is Deathmatch you need a clan. I have had some great times on Ventrillo and Teamspeak, even though I don't play anything seriously at the moment I still pop on there for a chat.

Not a clan or guild, but a tight community of regular players in UT2004. I found that it greatly improves the gaming experience, reduces the ass-hattery found in public servers, and gives you way more of a bang-for-your-buck in terms of your time investment in the game.

Yup, was for COD and MOH:AA, was www.dvdf.co.uk and then to www.toc-clan.co.uk when some members left and i went with them. Joined because I was into PC FPS at the time and we got together and got our own servers, so we can control the quality of the of service we are getting AND the people playing with us to get rid of cheats with punkbuster and monitoring people and banning their IPs too.

Still on the mailing list for quite an old Unreal clan, they play everything from the original Unreal to the latest version. Co30 is the tag. Very nice bunch of people they are too!

Aye laddie, I did - and all t'internet were fields, counterstrike didn't exist and Quakeworld was the game of kings.

....so about 10-11 years ago. ;)

Im part of Team Carrick a CS:S clan not that I play much at the min because of uni but its just nice to be part of a community where you know your always gonna get a laugh and a good game

I find it too geeky.

Saying this i was a member of 50 klicks on BF2. It wasnt full of stupid kids though and everyone had a good laugh...so it doesnt count as being geeky! I handed in my notice to them becase I just sort of got bored after hammering it for ages.

Since then i havent really played games at all. The first one i completed since was crysis. I play cod4 online a bit but only for 10 minute or so stints. Bought TF2 but got bored almost instantly

It's no more geeky than playing any Multi-player FPS games, only difference is you have a bunch of people you play with regularly rather than randoms on a random server.

OMG lol, ahh the memories. I started out in UT, I was in a couple of clans there. Then moved to the UT mod Tactical Ops, and joined the clan I am with now, nearly five years ago
Geeky? how so? online gaming is geeky or playing as a team and being a member of a regular team is geeky?

I like how you say clans are too geeky and then say you had to hand in your notice for being a "member" of a "team"

Yup pretty much always been in the same clan me and a couple of friends setup about 8 or so years ago, grew into quite a big clan and then slowed off a bit, now we call ourselves a multigaming community, As really were just a big group of friends with a teamspeak server that meet up most nights and play different games.

In 9 years of gaming (FPS) I have only ever been in two clans.

[TAR] in TFC since 1998 and we met up in real life a fair bit (paintball weekends) and you could not find a better bunch of lads. Young ones on Offy and the older members played Def.

[Dads.Army] for CS:S since about 2005 - thankfully a clan only with older members (some very old) and again a brilliant bunch of lads.

At the end of the day I don't overly enjoy going to pubs and spending all night drinking. Its just another form of socialising. Far better than sitting in front of soaps/films not talking all night.

Don't play anywhere near as much - couple of hours a week but its brilliant for chilling out.
