D40x and Sigma 105mm DG Macro.

I have borrowed this lense from my new buddie and I was wondering if it was 100% coompatible with the D40x of mine. I cant seem to get AF to work.

I have taken a few shots (not worthy of even uploading to PC :rolleyes:

) and struggle someties not using AF, practise will make perfect I know. So is there a setting on my camera to alter to activate the AF feature on the lense? My friend says on her's the AF works. Maybe its my D40 I dont know.

Help wanted

If it's not got its own autofocus motor you won't get autofocus. I think the suffix is USM on Sigma lenses for having its own motor.

I think it needs to be HSM (on Sigma Lens') for the autofocus to work.

Although Macro stuff is better with manual focus as you have much more control.

You need HSM lenses from Sigma, heres a list that'll autofocus (iirc).
May be a few others, as havent updated the list. Havent included Tamron, only Nikon/Sigma.

Depending on your camera, D40/X/50 all AF with only Nikon AF-S, and Sigma HSM, so look out for them

Thanks guys.. It will auto focus on her camera. She has a Nikon not sure what one though D200? I shall check later.

Manual focus is better as MartinTurner mentioned, more control...I shall have a dabble later and post some results..
