Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance

got supreme commander gold for xmas, haven't played it for more then 10 minutes so far becasue of work and playing other games but it is finally supremems turn. do i use supreme disc of forged alliance? thought there'd be no difference but the time iplayed it i used forged alliance and the loading stuff was forged rather then supreme.

also is there any way to improve the ui? it looks horrible, like from a 10 year old game or something.

Not read the last page due to spoilers but I'm really enjoying this game, it seems to kill my pc much more than the original sup com (can do everything +16xaa on the orig but only 0 or 2x aa on this) but the new units and race are fantastic.
SP plot is great and the skirmish AI is a massive improvement over the original.

Wish it would use the more than 1 core quicker though, by the time it begins to use more cpu power the game begins to grind to a painful powerpoint slideshow.

Fantastic game, seems to be really underrated. :)

there's campaigns for each faction for each game - both sup com and sup com fa, and each is a standalone game - you can uninstall one and still play the other.

sup com fa introduces new units for each faction plus a new side that you fight against in the campaign and can play with in skirmish. the ui is horrible in sup com but is much improved in sup com fa. i think there are ui mods but you'll need to check in with gpgnet which is where most of the mods and maps seem to be. the ai is also better in fa imho though still does stupid things.

I think in FA though which ever faction you choose the campaign is the same.

Yep. The only difference is that some of the secondary objectives are race-specific.

To those of you experiencing 'random' slowdown in FA, try doing an alt-tab a few times. I have found that sometimes I will get a terrible framerate even when there is nothing on screen, but if I switch to another window and back a few times it will improve. Not sure why this is, but it's a CPU rather than GPU limitation bug.

To those wanting general performance increases, try turning off the combat perimeter indicators, or whatever they're called. Those lines that show the weapon and radar ranges for each unit eat loads of CPU clocks. Oh, and the simplest solution for GPU-based lag is just to zoom a little further out.

try setting CPU affinity to high, it doesn't help much, but some people claim it increases frame rate.

AA is always going to slow your machine down and well the difference between 4xAA and 16xAA is so minimal that it isn't really that important.
