Somewhere Fabulous...
Hi guys.

I'm thinking of lapping my TRU-120 as i want to get the temps on my q6600 a bit more equal. There's normally about a 5c difference between cores 0/1 and cores 2/3.

I've found a good guide to lapping a cpu which, i assume, would apply to the base of a heatsink. I was wondering roughly how long i should spend on each grade of paper? If anyone has done this with their TRU i would appreciate any advice as this will be my first lapping experience!!

Thanks! :D

Lapped mine, took me about an hour and a half total.

Started with 200 grit, spent a good 30-40 mins on this taking the nickel plating off and getting the base flat, which is the point of the low grit paper, to grind the base flat.

Once it was flat (test with a stanley knife blade or a metal ruler or something similar) move upto the 400 and sand until all the grooves go one way, then move upto the next grade paper and sand again in the opposite direction til all the groves go the other way, continue all the way to your chosen grit level (I did upto 1000).

My time distribution was prolly something like:

30-40mins 200Grit
10mins 400Grit
10mins 600Grit
10mins 800Grit
10mins 1000Grit

I did mine last night, spent about an hour with 400 grit, then like above, 10 mins with 800/1000/1500/2000/2500.... (they came in the lapping kit and i wanted to see my face in it.)
