FAO People with Hiper Type-R 580W - Or have RMA'd one

the truepower isn't much of a step up... well at least its not like the hiper which has safty features to protect the psu in the case of a screw up... not your components though :p

My started buzzing.... so literally binned it.... never thought about RMAing it.... DOH!!

Oh no! Another 'Hiper's are pants' thread........which of course they are.......or were..........lets not get into that.

Anyways, mine went pop too so I RMA'd it. No problems, they sent me a brand spanking new one which promptly got sold. Good RMA service though, very friendly and fast, seems they've had plenty of practice. I took it there myself though as I don't live too far from them.

Hasn't put me off looking at another in the future though should it turn out that their component quality has improved. I thought that the cable system was of a better quality than the Enermax that I have now. I should know, the looms that we use on the F1 cars are aerospace standard.

I emailed for an RMA just after Christmas, and I'm still awaiting their reply!

When mine (Type R 580W) went it took at the very least my mobo with it. If I dont hear from thew soon, I'm taking it into the garden and attacking it with my axe/sledgehammer, filming it and posting it here.

I wonder if they'll still accept it back slightly twisted/dented? :D

lol id sit outside your house and steal all your mail just to see that :p

Send it back to them after with a note say... "It just doesn't work". You know you want to :)

Ooo send them a side note saying "do you use hipers to power your RMA servers? perhaps thats why you never replyed... it died before you got chance to"

It makes you feel better. :D:D It's what i did to mine after i found out that they would'nt pay for the replacement mobo after the Hiper exploded and tok it with it. Horrified my old neighbour though. She must have thought i had lost the plot.

Sorry to hijack the thread but my hiper went pop yesterday, just gracefully died and left a bit of a funny smell, luckily it didnt take anything with it, I have had it well over 2 years maybe even 3, any chance of an rma?

there should be a website called the Hiperhate and people should sign it and once its got into the millions, which im sure it will fast then it can be showed to the makers :) lol.

'Hiperhate' only applies to those with the 580w and below PSU's though - I had one, for about 4 months before I got a better one!

Their 700/800W current unit's are ok though, they're Andyson built so pretty good as far as I know. I always want to slap the big-wigs at a company that make a bad PSU for budget rigs, but then actually have a decent product for their higher spec units. They don't understand the term 'reputation' and don't realise how quickly it spreads with things like forums...

hi

I have a type R 580 that I got from OC about 18 months ago, do they really catch on fire? as I often leave my watercooled pc on over night downloading stuff but if I had a fire i'd be knackered as I couldn't get out quick enough what with my disability.

Should I replace it to be safe?

When mine went it actually blew up. Dirty great bang followed by a few flames and thick acrid smoke. I quickly yanked the power lead out so it did'nt actually catch alight. If i left the power connected who knows? I suppose there is a chance a failing one could start a fire. I personally would never trust any Hiper product again. As for replacing it, it's up to you. They don't all go bang, that just happens to the unlucky people. Some have had them running for a couple of years with no problems. You will always have that doubt in the back of your mind though.

The hiper reputation is because how they lied. They used to make top range psu's with top range parts in them. They then swapped out all the good parts and put crappy ones in and then they upped the wattage by 200w. So everyone tryed to power thinsg on it thinkin it was 580w psu when really it was a 380w psu which had had worse parts put in it then claimed it was a 580w. The result was lots of bangs and people hating hiper as it was cheap play to save money.

Also the voltage regulation on them is absolutly appalling its all over the place.

Wouldn't touch a hiper, i got me a seasonic.

I wish I never saw half the Hiper threads on this board now :)

I have had my Hiper type-r 580 for about 2 years now with no problems. However, EVERY time theres something wrong with my computer I think 'oh crap' :(

I saw they asked for all that on their site when mine died, but emailed the guy and asked what exactly needed to be sent and he told me just the psu and receipt with the RMA number, to save on postage. They were quite cool about it all when I emailed them. I really liked the PSU, lasted longer than any other I'd had and more importantly it looked good :)
