Iran: two youths to be flogged and thrown off a cliff

I think I'd rather be thrown off a cliff than have rocks thrown at my face until I was dead... Of course, I'd rather not have the flogging first.
It's a different part of the world with different culture, it's not the "make them sit on the naughty step, then give them benefits" UK. If that's what they see as the best punishment, who are we to complain?

Punishments like this have existed for a few hundred years, it still goes on.

and it would help get a fair few chavs off our streets

Chav's area clique, for they're fashion, language and attitude, not a criminal offence though.

and make it safer for me to park my car anywhere i wanted without worrying if a chav is going to come and key it or try to steal it!

But we live in a world of "Global Warming", but a power that throws people of cliffs, won't blink to take your earth destroyer away.

and hospitals and would help keep my tax's down as most of the tax i pay goes straight to a ***dhead who "cant" get a job but is more than capable of having 6 chavtastic kids (who do nothing but cause grief to hardworking and normal people) and gets so called "benefits" to sustain his idle and pointless life!

But they will need a new palace, and a new Mosque, so it will negate any money saved killing off the children of these 'chavs'.

Ah yes, the inevitable decline into talk about "chavs" and "benefits". To put it plainly...you're wrong. People wouldn't think twice before they committed a crime. As AcidHell said, they don't think they are going to get caught. Plus a lot of it is done in a moment of madness, or a fit of passion, where people by definition don't think twice. Evidently the Middle East would be somewhat of a paradise for you! Sounds like they've got it figured out heh? Bet no one pays tax, and all their prisons and hospitals function perfectly! While we're at it, let's bring the Gestapo back into play, and have neighbours ratting each other out for behaviour that doesn't fit with their ideals! Then we can chop them up and feed them to the dogs! It's what they deserve, right?

And what if something you find socially acceptable became a capital offence in the future? Would you be perfectly happy to be slaughtered in a brutal way, because you would want to uphold the ideals of the law?

From what I can see, you're basically advocating a return to the medieval period, where people were hung, drawn and quartered? (Because that stopped Guy Fawkes from wanting to blow up the Houses of Parliament didn't it....the threat of being hung, drawn and quartered if caught)

But throwing people of a cliff isn't a punishment, it's murder.

What is the difference between the US death sentence and throwing people off the cliff? Criminals get the same punishment.

I don't agree with the US system ether. But throwing people of a cliff is just a publicity stunt, and it has no place in an established legal system.

I don't see the problem why those who commited serious crimes get thrown off a cliff.

Please show sources of difference in crime rates. I would take a bet the ME has far far lower crime rates, theft especially.

It very hard to get accurate Iranian crime statistics, but there is lots of evidence to suggest that capital punishment is not an effective way of preventing crime.

Who defines a minor crime? In the UK, shoplifting is a relatively minor crime...from what I remember, that would result in you losing one of your hands in the middle east. How do you start drawing the line between major and minor crimes?

It's funny, because the Neanderthal urges you seem to despise so much in "chavs", aren't too far off the urges of wanting people to be butchered for transgressing a given society's codes of law.

im not advocating it, im just saying this country is far too relaxed.... and the problem with this country is that if the goverment cant solve a problem (like drugs etc) they just legalise it.

Lets face it, these days criminals can sue their victims.

Lets face it, these days criminals can sue their victims.

I agree, some of the sentences handed out in the UK at the moment are far too lenient but there's a ridiculously large difference because increasing prison sentences etc, and throwing people off cliffs!
