SKODA Octavia VRS WRX ?

Can't see that much power through the front wheels being any fun, wouldn't want much more through the front of mine to be honest.

Neil.

The man who is selling it wouldn't be forthcoming with any negative points after spending a fortune on modifications.

If the man who seemingly can't control his right foot reads the ad, then he'd see that the man who is selling it didn't spend a fortune on modding it, but actually bought it pre-modded after a long test-drive.

There are plenty of negative points:

- the rear-window wiper lifts up at 150mph
- the petrol tank only holds 55 liters, which is only 400 miles if you drive like a granny
- the seatbelt ding if you buckle up after you've switched on the ignition
- water runs into the boot when you open it
- the white fabric of the seats is a nightmare to keep clean if you have kids

Do you want me to go on? :p

You know that just by reading Parker's?

I just know it. In the same way I just know that eating faeces will not taste nice.

My car is pretty much identical to the Octavia in standard form and if I did the same modifications to my car there's no way it would be an M3 beater or anywhere near it. You're only kidding yourself if you believe that "fact".

Whilst the Octavia is a good all round car, it has developed somewhat of a supercar reputation, probably out of surprise that a Skoda can be a good car and reasonably quick. People often get carried away with this reputation and make all sorts of wild and wacky claims, just like you have done.

Bit harsh without ACTUALLY driving his car don't you think? :)

It's hard to comment on a car that's been sooo modified unless you've driven something with exactly the same mods done to it.

I'm not saying it's going to thrash an m3, but with those mods it's got to be fairly close....infact the skoda has about 50 more lb/ft and is 100kg lighter at least.

No. An M3 is an in-house, RWD high performance coupé and is an excellent performer. An Octavia is a mildly entertaining, FWD, luke warm family saloon and with the modifications listed will be nowhere near as quick as an M3 in pretty much all conditions be that track, road, drag strip etc.

The M3 is a finely honed engineering masterpiece with performance to match. His Octavia is a proverbial ham fist in comparison. There's no doubt it is a good car and probably a fairly enternaing drive with those modifications but he's kidding himself by calling it an "M3 b(eater)".

I'd say there is quite a good chance of embarrassing an E36 M3 with that Octavia.
E36, maybe. Logic would assume the same generation though meaning E46. There are diesel family saloons rolling off the production line which could probably "embarass" an E30 M3.

Im not doubting that the Octavia is reasonably quick, I just found the claim that it is a better car than a BMW M3 completely ludicrous and pathetic.

So let me get this straight, it's the same power (but with more torque) and lighter and it wont touch the m3 on a drag strip... whys that then? I'm seriously interested!

The octavia is an in-house, fwd high performance hatchback and is an excellent performer. (In that spec).

Why is it so ludicrous and pathetic though? It's similar power / weight (octavia has the advantage) and the octavias handling has been tweaked a lot from standard...

Ludicrous would be a 1.2 fiesta keeping up with m3, lets have a reality check please.

If only we were allowed to drive up to 155mph on the A41 on a quiet Sunday morning... guess we will never know, will we?

Arm chair critics... you got to love them

Arm chair critics?

How many BMW M cars has Scuzi driven?
How many BMW M cars have you driven?
How many 1.8T powered VAG cars does Scuzi currently own?
How many 1.8T powered VAG cars do you currently own?

I believe this concludes my case.

Because the M3 is RWD and will probably get off the line quicker. It will also have a more linear and useful powerband unlike the Octavia. Notice I am saying probably here as I have no proof, I'm just using basic logic and common sense.

I'd be willing to bet a months salary on a standard E46 M3 beating the Octavia around a track by a fair old margin.

The Octavia is not a high performance car. My Toledo is pretty much identical, same engine, same platform, same chassis, same brakes & suspension (I believe) and everything and I would tend to refer to it as reasonably quick rather than high performance.

I don't need to have driven a 51 plate Phoenix Yellow E46 M3 to know that my car would beat one on the A41 on a quiet Sunday morning if we were allowed to drive at 155mph...

But I'll admit, if we would have to start from 0 mph, I would imagine that I would have to do some catching up as from a standstill, it's not really that quick. It's much better from 30-40mph onwards though :)

Scuzi, if you're anywhere near Aylesbury, please don't be a stranger and come round for a cuppa and I'll show you how different your Toledo is from my vRS. Honest offer...

Your vRS is so awesome you want to sell it?

Another one who can't read ads... I'm selling it because I have two cars. One for the family (an Espace if you must know), and one for the daily commute to London. Since I've started a new job 2 minutes walking away the car will be parked on my drive for as long as my career keeps me in this job (which may be quite a while as I actually enjoy this job, unlike the previous one). And as I'm not actually rich or famous, I can't afford to keep it. Or maybe I can, but then I would have to tell the kids that we won't go on holiday for the next few years... happy now?

No, not really. You make it sound like it's some sort of amazing toy - a toy you'd happily give up becuase you've got a Renault Espace instead. Interesting.

If it's as good as you say it is it sounds the perfect weekend toy for the odd aimless blast. Never do these make more sense than when you've already got another car for commuting or if you don't even need to commute at all.

It costs next to nothing to keep a car like this for infrequent use - just tax and insurance, as petrol is proportional to its usage.

In the same way that on the third Tuesday of the month when the sun is directly overhead, the wind velocity is 043 degrees at 19 knots, the local Vicar is exactly halfway through a cucumber sandwich and the temperature of the next door neighbours oven hits 223.4 degrees centigrade - a Rover 100 Kensington will beat a Metro 6R4 up the A3224.

Your car is not an M3 beater. Stop kidding yourself.
