Official Asus P5N-T Deluxe nForce 780i Review/Overclock/Guide Thread

My pleasure. As you may have gathered, I have that PSU myself - only 2 gtx's at present - but it has been extremely stable thus far and I cannot see why it would have issues powering a tri-SLI rig. In my case, it was the only PSU that could consistently bring the system you see in my sig below out of an S3 sleep state - even the PC P&C 1000w SR was unable to achieve this without tweaking the chipset voltages.

That said, I do remember reading of a few problems regarding the 1200w model when used with certain motherboards, the Striker Extreme being a case in point, nothing cast iron though.

If it's of any help, the links below show how a review site had it set up - albeit on a Striker Extreme.

Even though SLIZone's "certified components" list is by no means definitive, it troubles me that there is no "tri SLI" qualified PSU that is currently available in this country, doesn't make our job any easier!

In any case, as you say, it could well be your board that's the problem.

Have been planning to get one of these boards myself. Nice review and has helped me make my mind up.

Looking at 4GB of the OCZ PC2-8000 ReaperX... but worried that if i wanted to go to 8GB in the future with the same RAM it would notfit due to the big heatsink on top. Anyone know any different?:)

Looking at a spec like -

--Asus P5NT-Deluxe
--Q6600
--2x2GB of OCZ PC2-8000 (or G.skill depending on above question)
--2 x GTX's (possibly BFG) wondering about waiting for G92
--2 x WD 150GB Raptor 10,000RPM (Stripe 0)

-Housed in a CM Stacker 832
-Vista x64 HP
-1000W + PSU (not decided which)

Leaving a possible future upgrade to *8GB RAM and *TriSLi

4 sticks of ReaperX wont fit the slots are to close togther.

Some cracking knowledge there, cheers balth

I've got everything you've said correct except the the cpu connection on the top left of the board, i've got an 8 pin in there, I'll try that when i get home.

It could well be an overloading problem 2 cards could be fine but 3 pushes it too far on a rail.

If your only moving the cards to different slots on the board i dont think it will be a power problem, sounds more like a dead slot tbh. I'll see if the board will post with a single card in any slot, it " should " work plus it would be a good way to test each slot without bringing power issues into the mix.

On the overclocking front i've been able to get solid 3.7ghz clocks with a Q6600. I'm just limited by poor silicon and not being able to set the multiplier higher than 9 with the current beta bios. Be carefull tho its hard to get a trustworthy vcore reading and most of the voltages in the bios can be increased massively, watch your temps :)

Have the fan facing the same way as that so its blowing the hot air towards the rear exhaust fan.

I've now rechecked my psu connections and all are ok, it now seems it wasnt just the cards that were the problem as it stopped working with 1 card also, sometimes it will start but not post sometimes it will post but wont boot, tried all the different components in my old 650i fatality mobo and they all work fine, i reckon its time to rma this board.

When you rma can you request a refund ? Never had an issue with something from overclockers.

Damn, 1 long beep 3 short.. :S video card error aparently? ... hmm okay found out it works on one of the slots (gfx card) but not the other...the pc works with the card on the bottom slot, but not the other... any ideas why?

At the moment, just have one card so can't try out Sli, i hope that slot isnt screwed...

Take out all the ram, gfx cards and bios battery move the cmos clear link to the clear position and take the mains cable out of your power supply, Let it sit like that for 10 minutes. Then move the cmons clear link back to the unclear postion, refit the bios battery, put one stick of ram in the slot closest to the edge of the board, fit one gfx card, cross your fingers and boot it up

Sounding more and more like either a faulty slot, or possibly one of the cards is faulty. I did have an 8800 that only posted in certain boards, turned out to be card itself that was defective, but since you've tested them all individually in another board, I doubt that's the case here.

In addition to clearing the CMOS (as above :)), there are a couple more things you might want to try:

latest BIOS

Try with only 1 stick of memory.

Is there a "memory remap" or "SLI aperture" option in the BIOS, if so try enabling/disabling/setting to auto etc.

Just to clarify, is the problem specific one one particular slot, ie: no matter which card you try in it, it fails to post?

Just tried clearing cmos but its still fooked, gonna re-box it and ask for rma :(

edit- I've installed the latest bios which didnt help, i'll mess around with the ram and see if that helps
