Focus ST vs Civic Type-R

The MPS was a real let down for me when i tried it, you could feel the electronics reigning the car back big time, it really needs a proper a LSD imo.

I didn't notice it being noticeably worse than the focus ST or megane 225. It was significantly better in the above regard than the Alfa 147 GTA.

But then all those cars could do with a proper LSD IMO (it's why the megane F1 is so good). I think my civic spoiled me in that regard.

The ST comes with two types of tyres cars with Goodyears really do have a job getting the power down, my car came with Continentals, and it was fantastic, ive currently got Bridgestones, and its consitently lighting up the ESP at every bloody opportunity, thank fully ive only got another 5k miles before the next set of tyres.

Out of the two definetly the ST the CTR is a sheep in wolfs clothing neither a proper Type R nor a comfy cruiser its got a confused identity trying to be too many things and failing miserably

However I don't like the Looks of the ST either but I say again since thats the choice of cars you have presented then definetly the ST

However I am baffled how you can think of potentially buying a new or nearly new CTR when you can still pick up a low mileage Honda Integra DC5

So if the question was amended to ST vs DC5 then I would say DC5 all the way baby :D

Good suggestion :)

Only issue is insurance as it's an import, but it's like a much better EP3 :)

I was 22 when I took it out

it depends on the dealer, i have two dealers near me, one I have driven an s2000 and a civic type R, one have a no under 25 policy which they strictly adhere to.....and i was chatting to the sales advisor and he offered to take me out in one BEFORE asking my age, so it wasnt because he thought i was wasting his time....

Tom.

I got a quote on a DC5 and the insurance was £800 more than the ST :o and i am not keen on the interior too.

I think the ST will be the one for me as it will be my only car and used every day so having the practial side of it will be good too while being able to open it up when needed.

I seem to be one of the three people that has bought a Mazda 3 MPS... Its very discrete indeed, and very quick! It feels a lot faster than any of the other contenders for definate -and I have driven most of them extensivly. Doesn't it have an LSD? I'm almost sure it does. Anyone saying that its too much power for a FWD obviously hasn't drivenit, for me there isn't a hint of torque steer which I found clearly in the VXR and the ST.

I average about 30mpg with a mix of hard driving and motorway cruising.

Thinking of maybe changing though to a megane r26 as I love the look of them!

Any more questions feel free to ask.

Well i just got back from a test drive. They did let me drive it in the end :)

My oppinions after the drive are that it was very nice to drive. Round residential areas it was nice to drive at low speeds, comfy and not too bumpy, the suspension was good The dealer then took me to a dual carriageway where i could open it up and it was very nice smooth acceleration and when the turbo kicked in it sounded great. Could easily sit in 6th gear at 70 and just push my foot down and have plenty of torque to keep pulling away.

So overall impressions are that it can be a car i could live with. Easy to drive around town but has the power available there to use it when needed.

When i went back to the dealers and the girl who had been dealing with me asked my impressions of the car and i said it was nice etc. but want to test drive other cars first to compare where she then went off to speak to the manager.

5-10 mins later the manager comes over saying if i don't go to Honda to test drive the CTR they will give me a good deal now  but i said i would rather test drive both cars if im spending that kind of money. His next plan was to show me a print off of each of the car reviews from Parkers website....

After a small chat about me not in a position to buy it right then and there and him saying i wont sell my car privately and should PX with them i told him i will not be buying it right now and i am in no rush, there are plenty of other ST's for sale.

Even though i probably will get a ST i don't want them to know that and i have got to sell my current car first but when it does sell i am confident of buying a ST.

Now which colour :D

Orange or Performance Blue.

Or I have seen a couple of the grey ones about and they look very nice also!

Definitely have a drive in the CTR also, its a lot of fun!

ST hands down. The FN2 is just bloated, cheaply made (skimped on suspension) and all round bent. ST has some decent power, an excellent chasis and some real modding potential if that takes your fancy. It also looks far better.

Also, heated front windscreens are ace

EDIT - as above, if the DC5 is thrown in I'd get that hands down. I'd also rather get the EP3 (wedge) civic than the focus.

The one i drive was Orange which i do like but not sure if i could live with but it also matches the car i think. The Performance Blue i also like but the opposite to the Orange in thinking it could be too subtle.

Whats wrong with the megane? Is the R26 not the limited edition with the LSD and a few other toys? It was about the only renault sport car that I would even remotly consider.
