SKODA Octavia VRS WRX ?

While that octavia looks quite nice, has an impressive list of mods and nodoubt is quite quick (after it wheelspins on the spot for 5 minutes and has trouble going round corners). There is no way it could get round a track even close to an M3. In a straight line my money would still be on the RWD, linear power band, M3.
Buy the car, find someone with an M3 willing to test, take a video camera and sort this thread out.

tblocksom- I knew you had a modified Octavia but never knew it was that one (I'm also on Briskoda)

I wonder what you have to do to stop the stickers looking rubbish after a few years? I guess a start would be to never polish it or make sure you polish around them (how much of a chore would that be :p ) and never go near it with a pressure washer?

The worst one I saw had all the stickers removed apart from the green bumper tops. That looked... odd

What stickers? Mine's been de-stickered for quite a while now :) I've had a few on them though, but not for 'years', as I've only owned this one for just over a year. Maybe you are confusing me with someone else? Or my car?

Who knows but the running costs can be done on a shoestring compared to the BMW too. I like the Q car appeal too.

That's another thing about the Octavia VRS, it's no longer a Q car. Anyone who cares about cars will know of it's performance and modding potential and will be expecting it to be reasonably quick.

A Corsa done up to look like a 1.2 Merit with a red top shoehorned into the front is a Q car. The Octavia had a hint of Q car about it when it first hit the forecourts but that is long gone. Besides, the 17" VRS wheels, green brake calipers, spoiler and other such cosmetic modifications give it away.

I don't think anyone expects vrs to be running 300bhp + (unless you're really into your VAG cars) Gots to get myself a KO4 Turbo pronto, they are cheap enough from the states as well with the injectors etc.

a 330+ bhp VRS is going to stay with 80% of M3's all day on the motorway, in gear and rolling start to anyweher near 100mph is going to be so similar there probably wouldnt be more than a couple of car lengths in it...

around a track the M3 would undoubtably be quicker, but how often do you go to a track?

I dunno, my opinion is that there's only so much a 1.8 litre engine with a turbo can do, especially when pitted against a 6cyl engine with the same power yet twice the cc. There's no replacement for displacement ;)

How long is that 337bhp Octy's engine likely to last being tuned like that? It's fairly impressive output! I'd also like to know how smooth the power/torque curve is :p

So in that one particular scenario, where this VRS will supposedly stay with 80% of M3s (pull that figure from mid air?) on the premise that it's in gear, a rolling start and up to 100mph and no more that a couple of car lengths in it, the VRS is an M3 beater and an M3 eater.

Yeah, whatever.

You know, over a field, in the wet with a maximum speed of 20mph on the fourth Sunday of the month and as long as the driver is a seventh son of a seventh son, my dad's fourteen year old Toyota RAV 4 will beat a Formula 1 Ferrari.

My dad's 14 year old Toyota Rav 4 is a Formula 1 Ferrari b(eater).

Boring

I think that 337bhp is a great buy for £6500!

Here's the graph for 337bhp btw... someone asked for it;

All we need is someone who owns an E46 M3 on here, to go meet him, hand him his ass on a plate and be done with it. Problem solved.

That's a real comprehensive and convincing argument you put forward there. I'm blown away by your accuracy and tenacity. Bravo.

I don't really need to provide a convincing argument to have the opinion that you're boring me in this thread...and because your "LOL FAKE SCENARIO" post is hardly funny/needed. :)

Anyway, back to the topic.

I like the WRC stickers :p

If you want to convey yourself as a mature poster willing to discuss and argue with fact and well thought out arguments then yes, you do need to provide a convincing argument.

If you want to convey yourself as a blinkered little fanboy with no basis for his opinion other than "I own an Octavia therefore I know more than you" then you should keep up the proverbial sticking your fingers in your ears and shouting LA LA LA LA.

You own an Octavia therefore you must be right when you say a ham fist modified Octavia is a better car than a BMW M3. What would I know? I've only driven about four BMW M cars and owned a VAG 1.8T car which is nigh on identical to the VRS for 3 years.

Excuse me?

I was saying your fake scenario bull was getting boring.

"If I itch my left leg twice on Monday the 5th of never and blink three time it means I will have a curry on Saturday night".

Yawn.

I'd much prefer to have the m3 over the vRS, but saying that it's a joke that this octavia is going to get even close seems a bit off... it'd be fairly close i'd imagine.

It's an octavia which is probably at the limit of what the engine can take.. against a stock m3.

"Fanyboy" is a name that gets chucked around all too freely. I really like my octavia, but that doesn't mean it's the best car ever so please dont patronize me with the the whole "mature / childish" statement. I was simply looking at the stats and making what I thought was an okish assumption. If anything we ALL know Bmws (apart from 318) are protected on these forums by the bm massive :p
