Money

Ah, I see.

Makes sense. And I take it they then re-instate the old currency with new notes etc once things have calmed down, because Germany had the Mark then, and they still had the Mark until the Euro.

Cheers!

I always wondered - in Germany when things went crazy and everyone had 100,000,000Dm, what would stop you leaving it in a bank account and waiting 20 years for things to be back to normal again and then still having silly amounts in the bank and being the richest man in Germany?

Stresemann replaced the mark with the Rentenmark.

EDIT: Just read that it was 1 rentenmark:1,000,000,000,000 mark

Because this was a really worthwhile thread before I came in and ruined it, obviously! :p

well there's actually some decent discussion on the subject then about 50% of the posts are spam from people saying its trolling.

and now 10% posts complaining about complaining about trolling.

i know ibot is strange, but i dont see how this post can get him banned, theres nothing wrong with it, a decent discussion imo.
+1

If he was to be banned then it can be seen as bullying. No different whatsoever from a school playground bully when a kid is picked on for being different!

How horribly dramatic. He says stuff to annoy people. It seems to work.

Anyway, there is no guarantee that the government don't do that. Just like there is no guarantee that space is real.

this post/topic of iBot's, while asinine, isn't annoying. the REST of his posts, on the other hand...

Too true & what would happen if something ever screwed up our electrical supply and / or electronic infrastructure?

Joking aside I think sooner or later terrorists / hostile states will make some kind of attempt to screw up the Western financial infrastructure. At the moment most people have an implicit trust in our banking system; we are quite happy having vast sums of money being simply numbers stored on a system somewhere and take it for granted that we can always get at it. Our whole society is now dependent on it.

Imagine what would happen if some kind of co-ordinated assault (not necessarily physical) was able to wipe out the transaction history even for a short time? I know there will be failsafes and DR in place but will all of them be reliable? I remember one of Tom Clancy's books around 10 years ago (Debt of Honour?) looked at a similar scenario involving the stock market.

And where would that money come from? What would it be backed by?

The gold reserves that "Spastic Chin" sold off at a ridiculously low price. Oh, hang on a bit they can't now can they............................................................?
