The time has come for me to pass the buck and give up my position as photography judge. Recent commitments and goings on in "real life" have meant that my spare time has dwindled to almost nothing and it's not fair for me to continuously hand in results late.

There are many excellent photographers on this forum and I hope that plenty will apply for the position. The OcUK photo competition has been a great success and I hope that it can continue with your help.

Your responsibilities will be to judge the entries to the photo competition on a monthly basis. You must give a mark out of 10 for each category on each photo, these categories being Theme, Technical and Impact. You must judge impartially and based solely on the photograph.
Your fellow judges will be xolotl and Ichabod Crane. You will send your results to xolotl who will compile them and post them at the appropriate time.

Ideally we want someone with a sound knowledge of photography and plenty of experience. If you feel you are suitable for the position, please send an email to me with a few words explaining why you think you would make a good judge.
All entries will be considered by the existing photography judges and Spie and a candidate will be picked.

All applications must be received by 23:59 on Saturday 19th January 2008 and should be sent to [email protected]

Many thanks and best of luck :)

Good luck to all who apply, i would apply but my knowledge of photography is very amature, im currently learning the basics, and have a camera coming in a few weeks time (350D hopefully/most likely)!

Although i would love to be able to judge the pictures that are entered as i think we have some amazing photographers on here, soon enough ill be up with you lot attempting my luck.

Anyway, good luck people!

James.

I think I may apply. Although I want to commit to entering every month, I don't think I'll get the chance to do so in my current living situation. Besides, it'll help me keep the site up to date... :)

Can we nominate potential candidates?

I would love to run for it but I'm not sure how much free time I'm going to have in the near future what with my final two terms of uni coming up.

It's going to be hard enough for me to enter never mind judge. :p

Website is pure html/css with a bit of lightbox 2.0 (java) thrown in.

I'm studying Graphic Design at The Arts Institute at Bournemouth in my final year now.

I really need to upload some more content and update the news section but I've been enjoying the Christmas holidays too much. :p

If you were to apply, you certainly would have my vote of confidence. You already do a great job with the website and I would be happy to have you as judge. Im not sure about applying to be a judge. I would like to, but I think id also like to continue entering competitions for a while.

I agree Growse would make a good judge and deserves some respect for the site that he has put together. However if Messiah Khan was judge the rest of us might stand a chance ;)

Another vote for growse but I fully respect that he might want to continue entering. (same goes for MK but MaxPower has a good point. HAving said that MK didn't enter the Power comp so who knows, maybe he's getting slack in his old age. :p)

It is a difficult choice, isn't it?

Here is an idea...

Could we allow the judges to compete?

I think would need 4 judges:

- A judge would be judged by the other three judges
- A normal competitor would be judged by all four judges

And the results would be massaged so that the scores would be comparible (increase one by a third or decrease the other by a quarter...)

This means that we need more judges, but it might be easier to find judges if judges could still compete. (I would be willing myself, if only I had the skill...)

I wouldn't have thought that'd be necessary, i'm sure plenty of people will willingly apply anyway.
