Should You buy a 360

Have to agree. A few of my friends who have just gotten into gaming, play Call of Duty 4 on the 360. And after a few weeks convinced me to trade in my PC copy for the 360 version.

I haven't played much compared to the PC. But I already hate the that I can't pick and choose the servers I like. The fact the host can just end the game whenever he/she wants, usually when they're losing. Having to pay Microsoft to even play the game online, makes me feel a little sick inside.

360 as awhole is pretty good, but the online side has a lot of catching up compared to the PC in my eyes.
 
I have always been an avid pc gamer, but the 360's lure of cheap gaming with good visuals (compared to what a pc within my budget could produce) got me. I must admit, online play is deffinately inferior to that on the pc, however, I do find singleplayer to be more enjoyable, also I like being able to sit in bed and play. It is also nice to have my mates round playing some COD4.

I felt that paying Microsoft was one of the main strong points of the 360 for hosting, since you'd likely get a better experience compared to standard PC gaming (like having to buy hosting from various servers like Jolt etc). I agree that picking servers would be a down-side for 360 gaming though I didn't think it would feature so strongly. Does it really matter who your host is if your pings are similar?

I wasn't even aware the 360 had dedicated servers. I thought it was all P2P?
 
I have one but hardly use it, I'm a PC gamer and I enjoy gaming on my PC more, I think the games are too similar to ones I can get on my PC. On the other had I own a Wii and play it all the time because it's nothing like playing games on my PC.

The Orange Box is another reason I favour the PC, no fan maps or mods for the console version and you canhave 32 players in one game. Even Valve said that their updates to TF2 the consoles may miss out on it.
 
Didn't need to decide as the missus got one for her and the kids a while back. So I guess its handy for the odd game I can't get on PC but tbh after playing a few games on it I still find PC gaming vastly superior overall. No contest really.
 
I agree with you on the poor state of servers on XBOX Live. You're paying a subscription fee yet there are no dedicated servers and all you can do is play tiny games hosted on Player X's rubbish home connection.

I wouldn't even consider joining a non-dedicated player-hosted server on any of my (free to play) PC games.
 
i didnt like the lack of players either

they really need to sort out dedicated servers , especially on the big name FPS games. possibly one of the only better things about ps3 online is the dedi servers
 
is you have money buy ps3 as i dont have one my self as they are expensive i think i get it upcoming christmas as prices will go down and tbh if you have good pc there is plenty better games on it
 
I have to agree, I got a 360 before christmas, and it's spent the last few weeks gathering dust. Even the "mighty" halo 3 was dull online (split-screen with some mates is another matter ;) ), forza 2 kept me entertained for a while however.

Basically I can't find any games I want to play/would pay that much for. FPS's are a no-no for me, as I *need* a mouse; and nothing else has grabbed me.

tempted to get a 360/ps3 but then i think why would i, the only games i would really play were pro evo and cod4, and evo sucks online on all platforms plus iv got it on pc with the 360 receiver, and cod4 is so much sexier on my pc and on m+kb.

Id also be 2 tempted to splash on a new tv if i got a 360 or ps3, but then id think ohh a new tv, ill get a GTX. Xbox only tempting for playing with friends, even then its only going to be halo or cod4 for me, and i dont rate halo and have cod4 on the pc...

have seen quite a few lately around and about 2nd hand(a few popped up on membermarket) for £250 and less, not that expensive really. Not much chance it it having a hardware failure like 2nd hand 360, and its free online unlike 360, overall theres not THAT much between them these days. Its also got advantage of having the blu-ray player for anyone whos interested, which now looks to be the big next-gen format.
