Like a few people, I went to York today on the TP meet. Got a few decent shots;

The third is very nice, I was going to go unannounced to the TP thing today, as I read about it yesterday but thought against it lol. The sharpness, colour, depth and symmetry's are all bob on in these shots, and the third stands out for me over the others. :)

Have a good day?

i got a similar one to the 1st yesterday too, never hought of no.2 but it's well executed, and the 3rd is also great, good work MK :)

Great shots as usual, MK. The third is the best of those for me, just showing a bit of perspective.

Really annoying that I'm back at uni now, as York is really convenient for me and I would have been on that meet in a flash. Still, there's always next time - or the time after :o

Stunning shots as ever mate.

Was there any specific reason for the small aperture, long exposure?

What, apart from just getting a large depth of field?

I get that, but f/22 is a pretty tiny aperture. Wouldn't say, f/11 have given him the same DOF for a much shorter exposure length? I don't know what the distance between the floor and ceiling is there but I would have thought that everything would still have been sharp even with a wider hole. That's why I'm asking...

Well the height of the vault is about 90ft (27m) according to the web, so focussing that at f/22 and 10mm gives acceptable sharpness from 0.72 ft to infinity. As you say that's slight overkill perhaps, but depending on just how much sharpness is lost at f/22 it doesn't really matter that much.

I suppose it doesn't matter that much, I was just interested in why MK had decided on that value specifically. As you say some lenses' sharpness would suffer with that aperture (obviously not in this case though.

Very nice. What lens was that? The Sigma 10-20mm? Did you have to do any perspective correction?

Cheers. Nope, no perspective correction. Would't mind a perspective correction lens like.

Thanks. Yeah it was a good day. Nice to put faces to names of people from TP. The minster was really nice as well as they had taken all the chairs out.

Ummm... what or who is "TP" ?

Hehe, well you lot are partially correct. It is to achieve the maximum dof possible. but more importantly it makes for a long exposure. And long exposures = moving people become invisible. ;) Not so much of a problem with the ceiling shots I admit, but for shot 3 it helps to remove people.

If you look closely, you can actually see two slight ghosts in the centre right below the organ. Still, a cunning strategy.
