I bought my PS3 happy that id be able to play all the previous final fantasies and kingdom hearts games, but it seems my 40gb ps3 can't actually do this lol.

Do you think the high street store would let me take it back for a 60gb version? I already opened eye of judgement and assassins creed, however - and the ps3 is now used.

Or should I just buy a preowned ps2 slim from the other high street store. i think i can get them for 50 quid and I could trade in assassins creed or eye of judgement for it, too, because assassins creed is crap on the ps3 and eojudgement is too much effort.

If you'd searched you would have found COUNTLESS threads about backwards compatibility :(

The 60GB has been phased out, so if you can get one then go for it, however they might be funny if you've opened the box.

I would get a PS2Slim mate, for the simple reason that no Backward Compatibility or Emulation is 100% and if you care about your games as much as I do you'll want to play them as they were intended to be played. I do use my PS3 to play PS2 games but that is more for convenience than anything else. (and some games do look better up scaled on the PS3 on a HDTV)

Don't get me wrong 90% of PS2 games work fine on the 60GB PS3's but there are those that have glitches etc.

If I had more space/connections and actually had a PS2, I'd have them both setup.

sorry im not a big researcher lol. i just went to the store and bought one. TBH i think its scandalous that it is not made more clear by the store and on the box etc. The simple fact I made the mistake in the first place is evidence of this :P

I guess. I may just get the 50 quid deal then - it comes with final fantasy XII and Kingdom hearts 1, so that's a start hehe.

Im very much into japanese RPG, adevnture/action RPGs so all the PS2 gems are something I would like to play :)

It is quite clearly written on the box IIRC. I think buying a PS2 slim is the best idea as Inoshishi has already said; the PS2 emulation on the PS3 is not 100%.

I'm just playing FFXII for the first time, only 3hrs in and already hooked :D

Just get a slimline since i don't think the backwards compatibility of the ps3 is 100% anyway.

I doubt you will be able to get hold of a 60gb model, when I was working at Argos as soon as 5 came in they were reserved within 30mins and then probably sold on that auction site

I know of a competitor who has a notice on there front page about just getting a load of 60's in. Still showing as in stock at the moment.

nah, its actually one of the best. better than 8, for example, by some way.

X was a bit Meh also.

Obviously doesnt compare to FFVii, but is Vii a pedastal that games aspire for but are simply never going to reach?

I loved X

But XII looks cack, i hate the battle system, the character u play dont even really fit into it, hes just dragged into the story plus the storys pretty straight forward and boring

cant beat 7,8,9 and X though. I even loved X-2 tbh

Well I spent millions of hours on XI so the battle system on XII is very similar and suits me.

I'm ashamed to admit, I've never completed a FF game, but I do love them all.

Sorry for throwing this thread way off topic

Off topic but ncsoft (makers of guild wars) has an exclusive contract with sony to make i think 3 mmo's for the PS3. This, The Agency, Free realms and other S.O.E games will hopefully fill your mmorpg gap.
