Keegan appointed new Newcastle manager, again.

but I also think fans expectations need to be reigned in as thats also part of the problem

Amen, at least one person within this discussion has the common sense to see sense, regardless of the "passions" of the true supporter?.

I'm a Bournemouth supporter (okay, giggles aside) and we are dire this season (let's be frank, we are always dire) but unlike most people on these forums, I do not support one of the Premiership clubs.

Would I like a sponsor with millions, of course I would, would I like us to play superb football and entertain us every week, of course I would, but at the end of the day Mr Bond is a muppet who should be running a Gala Bingo hall and not a football club, but I will always support them, shout and cheer for them, because that's where I'm from.......and regardless of what league they are in or how dire the football is, they are my team.

Are we going down this season.....yes probably, am I happy, hell no, but to suggest Newcastle are in "dire straits" is preposterous, and for any of the supporters to brandish "Shearer" placards is stupidity at a new level.

You may well wear your hearts on your sleeves, and love your Robson and Keegan's, but the "new world" has no space for Dinosaur's, like it or lump it, you will have to forego "style" for "substance", regardless of your new owner's avowed wish for "attacking flair play".

This thread has gone off the boil...

turning up the gas! (how cheesy)

Looks like there seems to be a big push for Keegan to come back and finish what he started...

Im very mixed about this.. i think it smells of desperation a bit trying to bring the old days back.. things have changed so much since 1996

on the otherhand it would send waves through the city i guess, it would be a bit of a buzz which could filter through to the performances..

however my view is that id only want Keegan or Shearer back at the club if they worked together..

I think if that happened then it would definitely give a huge lift to the place, whether it would work who knows but at least the place would be going nuts.

Being sensible though maybe a proven manager at the present time would help... but options are thin i think Hughes would be silly to leave Blackburn at this moment in time

Although i really think Hughes is a great manager and would be happy to see him here..

But im swaying more towards my heart of Keegan Shearer combination :) just for the thrill lol

Its been said by a few people but Shearer has to be involved in the new management team imo. Like what has previous been said as long as Shearer isn't involved whoever takes the job will always have the 'Shearer factor' hanging over his head and as soon as the team's form drops there will be calls for his head. However i wouldn't be keen on Shearer and Keegan, you need to have one guy who knows what he's doing.

Basically either give it to Shearer on his own and when he fails (which i think he would if on his own) then the next guy hasn't got that hanging over his head or team Shearer up with somebody with a bit of experience but maybe not such a high profile.

Shearer as assitant to Glen Roeder seemed to be working very well, after Souness dragged us down the table, they pulled us back into a UEFA Cup place (ok through the intertoto but still) then Shearer left to do his pundit job with the BBC and it all seemed to come apart

This a massive appointment for the club. The first one from Ashley and who ever comes in will need to be backed with time and money to improve things. He needs to get this right even if it is only to keep the club healthy to sell on. This will send out a message one way or another what Ashley is about and appointing somebody like Keegan and/or Shearer would be foolish in my opinion.

It has to be a manager with a proven record who could perform in the premier league. Somebody who can be trusted and has the ability to utilise any fat cheques for the transfer kitty that may appear.

I just don't see most of the names that's been mentioned as fitting the bill other than Hughes. He has done well at Blackburn and we would offer him a better base to work from long term and he has shown he can build teams and keep them performing.

I think if he was appointed and backed by the club through the first couple of season, which no doubt will have some real sticky moments. Then Hughes and Newcastle could be good for each other. Even if he did eventually move on to the United job or similar we would be in a far better position than we are now.

So what if he does get the job?

He won a lot for Liverpool and won the league recently with Lyon. Not a bad manager in my book.

He's would be a very good choice imo and i wouldn't be surpised that if he did get the job that he'd want to have Shearer as his assistant, he was very keen on having somebody from the club alongside him in Thommo.

The first thing he'd want to do would be sort them out at the back which is what Newcastle have needed in ages but he'd have to be careful because we all know that if things don't go right and he's playing defensive football then he's not likely to get much time.

I think I would prefer him to Hughes.

Panzer

agreed, Blackburn under Hughes don't play particularly 'nice' football, yea they're doing ok but theres not flair or class which we of the Toon Army demand, if we're gunna lose a few games we had at least better play well, winning ugly is acceptable, but losing ugly really is not

Houllier won't play 'nice' football either so i wouldn't get your hopes up.

Do Newcastle fans not remember what Houllier did to Liverpool in his latter years?

Was shocked when I heard his name mentioned, not most of all by the supporters. He'll do even more damage than Big Sam, imo.
