Placards outside churchs...

I agree, if I were to put a sign on my house saying "God smells" or whatever people would complain, why is it OK to promote god but not for me to disrespect it, what if my beliefs are totally opposite to a Christian?

I dont disagree with the sign because I believe in free speech but I am sure I couldn't hae a sign saying anything I want is my point.

Although I do find it interesting that people who are stupid enough to believe in this have the brain power to be witty, they probably ripped em of the net, loads of Christian websites nowadays....

What is the issue, how can you possibly be offended by this. That is like me as a Ipswich fan seeing a norwich fan and being offended by them. Obviously Norwich suck but I'm not going to be offended by his advertisement of his football team. If you don't like the advertisement don't look at it.
I think it is a great thing as Turo says some churchs have a very stuffy archaic image, which often in no way represents the view of the congregation and is also the opposite of what the christian faith is about. God clearly had a sense of humour he made Crane flies.

It is odd that people talk about the freedom of speech and the freedom to believe what they want to, yet people take issue with them making funny comments advertising their belief outside the church. I could understand frustration if you feel that strongly against something and it is being rammed at you by some pushy obnoxious bloke on the street.

I don't understand how people can be that sensitive and that intolerant of others.

Both should be fine.

But then again you say things like this... If a religious person says those who don't share their beliefs are stupid, they get labelled as a fundamentalist. Welcome to the same list :)

There is such a thing as taste and decency. That type of poster would insight some kind of unrest amoung numerous persons. I hardly think you would put up a racist poster? Its not quite the same.

No and the church would not be allowed a sign saying anything they want either. Church signs, like all advertising (possibly disregarding political ones), are in a postive light and are not designed to insult. Putting up a sign saying "God smells" is just being deliberatly confrontational, just like if a church were to put up "Islam is wrong, join us!". I'm sure if you really desperate to put up a sign displaying your beliefs in a non confrontational way then it would be perfectly acceptable, and if it isn't...well blame Labour :p

Not quite a church approved slogan but I've always had a smirk when I've seen "Jesus saves.... but McCoist puts away the rebound" - I'm pretty sure that it has been around for decades though so I think it might have been about Hurst when I first saw it.

If Jesus was born nowadays, Mary would have God up before the court on a rape charge.

Then she'd claim the dole and get herself a nice council house.

I wonder how Joseph would feel about a paternity test?

I don't worship Jesus. Turning water into wine is fine, but he's got nothing on William Matheson, if you ask me!

Isn't there something in the law were the only place in the country you full freedom of speech and not get arrested or what ever in hyde park or somewhere? I might again just be making this up...

Following on the SPW's post, there used to be a board up at St James Park (home of Exeter City) that read something along the lines of "We've got the best Keeper - Jesus saves".

Who labels them as a 'fundamentalist'?
It's sounds like you're doing the labelling, and that you've just labelled him.

the church is headingley (leeds) is always doing this

Recently we've had

A big big brother eye with "Big Father House"

and a conveyer belt with stickmen recieving pints with "Is this it?" or something along those lines

I always look to see what new one they have up lol

Because we are only Gods adopted children because of Jesus.

By trusting in Jesus, that he died to save us, makes us co-heirs with him, into the glory of Heaven.

Without Jesus we cannot consider ourselves sons of God

so what do we do in heaven? all sit on thrones round a table sipping wine or what?

Why on my drive to work should I have to look at stupid church signs when I dont believe in it, im sure if i wrote to my council and said I was muslim and found these signs offensive they would demand them taken down, but because I dont believe they wont

Sure... same as I'm offended by endless advertising billboards. Think if I write to someone they'll take them down? Give over.

In other news, I'm a Christian and those signs embarrass me. They're often tacky in the extreme, and I hate the idea that a church thinks they're doing their bit to spread the gospel by having some little sign by the gate. Ugh.
