Radeon HD 3870 X2 Launch On Jan 23rd, Costs US$449

£275-285 would be my guess at pricing.

Less is a bonus, more is pushing it.

Either way as long as it is sub £300 i'll be having one.

Also remember that in theory this card will cost less to produce (print) than two separate 38xx cards, that said I don't see them being that much cheaper than your average pair (some cards still retail for close to £200) therefore expect just below £300 from aggressive retailers, comfortably over that figure for RRP runners.

Is it true that with crossfire X you can match different chips and memory and you will always get improved performance no matter how little memory or power has the lower card?

I have a 3850 with just 256Mb of ram, It would be great if i could use in a future along one of these monsters.

I wouldn't.

If you use the lower card you will limit the other card to 256MB/GPU as well.

Hopefully cheaper! May as well get 2 3870's if it costs more than 2. At least you can sell the cards seperately which would probably net more money than the depreciation on this card.

Matthew

no, simply because the only other card like this (2600X2) was way faster than two cards in crossfire for some reason, so good chance this might be the same

2 questions, Is it worth crossfire on a P5K, having only 1x16 PCI-E and one 1x4 and if so will 2 of these run happily in that config.

Seriously doubt you will be able to run a 3870X2 on a 4x PCI-E slot.

Taking it has 2 x GPU's to feed you are effectivly going to be running a 3870 on a 2x PCI-E bus... that is going to massivly cripple the card.

Hmmm, damn :/

Looks like i might need to buy another mobo fairly soon.. I know benchmarks are yet to surface, but comparing this to a GTX, does it blow it out of the water?

Cheers,
Lea

So can you run them in X-FIRE on a abit pro as i think one of the express slots is x8?

ABIT Ip35 Pro like all other P35 boards (appart from that one ASUS Blitz board) is 16x/4x

As such you can run one 3870X2, but I highly doubt you could run 2.

You could prolly get away with 3870X2 + 3870XT for 3 x GPU goodness.
