Leslie Ash gets record £5 million compensation from NHS

bloody moron imo...

Oh no its GREAT that you're alive.. just take £5 mil or £500k from the NHS who arnt exactly in financial joy atm..

Here's some of the comments from the daily mail:

Sorry you caught it, but at least you are alive. We now have 500,000 pounds less to help others who catch it. Greed.

I think this is disgraceful. How can she possibly justify suing a cash strapped organisation for half a million pounds? Completely unbelievable.

scum imo.. why cant people just get over stuff like that? its life, deal with it...

Its like having someone save your life whos on peatnuts to what shes earning then say oh POOR LITTLE ME, THERE WAS SOME DISCOMFORT... so i'll take £500mill of you thank you very much..

We're talking about the pain, it isn't greater for someone who makes more money.
Why are you talking about pain though? You don't get compensation for the pain, but for loss of earnings.

I think it's also worth pointing out that this was an out-of-court settlement and thus, if this had gone to court, she probably would have got more - which certainly implies that her lost earning potential is much in excess of £5 million.

Kill the stupid cow! bloody moron imo...

Hmmm, either you have MRSA of the brain or you don't understand the seriousness of contracting MRSA from a dirty hospital ward! For your sake I'm hoping it's the latter!

Thats lame..

What if a dustbin man gets hit by a car?

This isnt America..

Also, its not as if they put it into her on purpose

No, but they have admitted to not doing things correctly, which is nearly the same thing.

If I run you over because I'm wearing a blindfold, is it different from deliberately running you over?

1) If she was a scrubber from a council home would she have got the same payout ?

2) Her hubby is known to have beaten her up in past.

3) I dont care about anything to do with any Celebs really.

1) most compensation is based on lost earnings etc as far as I'm aware so no I doubt she would've got the same payout.

2)where she sustained the original injury is completely irrelevant though.

3) If you don't care then don't post in a thread about them.

MRSA can have between no symptoms at all and pneumonia or toxic shock syndrome. Many people that contract MRSA actually walk in to hospital with it - it can hibernate for years and years before presenting any symptoms, only agitated by some sort of body trauma, such as an operation.

There's an awful lot of misinformation about MRSA. I don't doubt that it was awful for her though, nor do I doubt that the award is fair.

What's industrial negligence? Excuse my ignorance.

Probabaly a bad 'attitude' but things like that make me unhappy to say the least.

Yep. Don't have a clue what it is - but what happened to the days of 'its happens, it happens'? Can you imagine the scale of cleaning required? its not like the cleaners (probabaly) will just not do it effectivley.. last time I went there were particulary pedantic health restrictions, warnings and equipment imposed.

ps. edited the first bit out

1. She deserves to die because the NHS gave her MRSA? Nice. Best cross your fingers next time you're in for an operation, hope that people don't wish for you to die

2. She wouldn't have taken it from the NHS, they are insured against this kind of thing. Of course, if they didn't make mistakes they wouldn't need to be.

3. Stop reading the Daily Mail, it is doing you no good at all.

4. The NHS admitted liability - hence the payout. If they hadn't made a mistake then there wouldn't have been any cash. Should she have to just deal with the fact that she is in constant pain and can't work any more? No, she shouldn't.

5. It is nothing like that. Stop overreacting you look foolish.

She fell against her husband's fists, allegedly *ahem*
Just in case you didn't see it in time, the article originally said something along the lines of "Leslie Ash was admitted to hospital after breaking two ribs by falling off her bed onto a table during a love-making session with her husband, Lee Chapman."
It also had a lot more "I'm delighted" quotes.

What a ridiculous amount.

So if Richard Branson falls ill whilst he's in hospital, should the hospital give him billions in compensation. Hell no.

So how many operations are now going to have to be cancelled to pay her off. :(

It's not fallen ill, it's made ill due to bad working practices (ie avoidable).

That's a rather different issue.
