Goning to buy a new machine soon & thought i'd give Vista a run.

Spend quite a bit of time playing WoW & just wanted to make sure it will run ok.

Sorry if this has been asked before.

thanks in advance.

Runs as good as it does in XP for me, the only problem I ever had with it was with the Blizzard Updater but that was related to UAC and it not having sufficient privileges but I think they fixed that.

I actually gained a few frames per second, which is highly unusual as every other game did the opposite. World of Warcraft and Vista are probably the most flawless co-existence you'll find in PC gaming for a while. I think it might have something to do with Vista x64 now recognizing my 4GB of memory and World of Warcraft taking full advantage of it.

I'm on 64bit vista, having issues with FPS and sound.

First issue is low FPS, never had it pre XP.

Second is sound issues, which i'm not sure might be the X-Fi Gamer card. Getting lots of random static and sounds switching from speakers.

Yes there are issues with the X-Fi in Vista but its not REALLY a problem as there is a work-around/fix/offical response by Creative on how to resolve this (which does work as I use the card and many others).

No major issues besides sound but that can be worked around.

-using 64bit Ultimate here

I'm running Vista x64 with X-Fi and WoW - Everything fine :)

You haven't got X-fi enabled most prob as you are new to the game you might not notice. Go into Sound Options and tick the Hardware box.

Exit game and go back in, bet it is still unticked now isn't it?

Any information on the fix? Please.

Can you disable the box which comes up asking if you want to run the programme or not?
Thats the only annoying thing I can think of. Otherwise yes it works very nicely indeed!

Why yes I do have the solution to this very annoying problem.

Basicaly, pay attention and read the following people

When the box is unticked in the Sound menu on World of Warcraft you are using the in-games sound crap (sorry for the lack of terminoligy here) NOT your creative x-fi. You may also notice certain sounds are missing ie when trying to mine a vein you dont hear the dink dink dink noise.

Ahah you say YES DAMONIC I HAVE THIS ISSUE..

Well people here is how you fix it, and why it happens.

It is not Creatives fault, nor is it WoWs, WoW is pretty old and its hardware is old, all this works great on Windows XP.

Firstly you need to download "Creative ALchemy" this software by creative basically restores sound from your Creative card that Vista no longer supports for games.

Once you download and instal that, fire it up. You will see World of Warcraft. Drag this over to enable "ALchemy-enabled games"

Now you have just restored all the missing sound you once had on XP.

BUT this still will not fix it as Patch 2.3 of WoW screwed this up.

BUT you can still fix this. (Am I getting annoying yet :D )

Finally go into your WoW dir and find the wow.exe
-Right click and select "Properties"
-Click the "Compatibility" tab
-tick "run this program in compatibility mode for:"
-From the drop down box choose "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)"

OK everything and fire up World of Warcraft.

You have now fully restored the sound on Windows Vista and World of Warcraft.
