It was the other way round not long ago! And Microsoft are ********. :p
The Japanese market is smaller than the American one. By a way.

People have hated Microsoft for well over a decade, despite offering an excellent operating system, 2 great and affordable consoles, peripherals of top quality and a fantastic gaming line-up.
Sony ripped people off and offer nothing to the EU, so why you're so far up their **** I don't understand. People are hating on Sony with good reason (certainly in Europe), but people hate on Microsoft without understanding them, which was my point.

It seems the in thing to hate the big boys.

Microsoft are hated by a lot for their operating system, Even though it's great.

Sony are hated for their console, Even though it's great.

I dont mean to sound agressive or whatever i aint up Sonys ass its just that MS certainly dont offer peripherals of top quality!lol MS products lack serious quality!! Hense the 1 in 3 (tho its clearly higher) failure rate of 360s which is well annoying when your so called great console starts giving out general hardware fault errors halfway through COD4! Plus still paying for thier super duper online service whilst i wait 3 weeks for a replacement.

You may love your PS3 but you sure hate Sony lol.
No idea why you single out Sony, i can think of many many things that Microsoft do wrong and the same with most other large corperations including Sony.
The EU/Other market is going to be bigger than the US market soon, its now about the same in regards to console sales, Software is also up there and infact many PS3 games have out sold there US counterparts.
Thats why i never like the NPD data as it only gives you a third of the picture not the whole story, I'd rather wait till end of March for the Company results than guesstimates from the NPD group.

The only people who think Microsoft have given us excellent operating systems are the people who've never used a proper Unix or Linux OS. It's not even funny how much more you can do with a proper OS.

Remember, Microsoft are the company that has given the world the Blue Screen of Death, the Red Rings of Death (see a pattern here?), frequent Word crashes, thumbs its nose up at the law of the land, abuses it's monopoly on a daily basis, paid lip service to security in it's OS and applications (e.g. IIS), and charges mega bucks for the privilege.

I hate Sony as much as anyone, I just hate MS more.

BSoD is normally down to your hardware though isnt it? So how can you blame MS for that?

Ive never had a problem with their OS (well, XP) cant go wrong with it

Surely laws of averages work into the equation there though.

How many people use Word, Microsoft operating systems. Problems are going to always look more apparent when EVERYONE uses them. The only person I know who uses a Linux OS is me, In real life that is, I know a few through MSN/Forums.

I'm pretty sure if the world flipped on its head, and everyone used Linux, There would be a lot of problems found.

Yeah XP is great for me, never had a problem, only BSOD I have had in 5 years is when messing about with new memory and OC the CPU :)

Lets be honest i bet every single person that has ever been on a windows computer has experienced a bsod.

i have

but only twice when building my computer, it was because:

Nice you brought suicide into a discussion about windows.lol I experienced enough at school/college were its impossible to 'mess' with anything, so this leads me to the conclusion that windows is unstable.

Im abit biased towards sony as I pretty much live in a sony house. Sony tvs/consoles/amp/cameras ect... My main gripe with them is there high costs, but at least you get premium grade hardware for the cost. Not once have I ever had to return sony hardware. I even have a couple of old sony walkmans from my youth that work fine to this day and they had to survice the riggors of school ;)

My biggest anoyance with sony though is that they wont allow there consoles to be all they can be. capable of so much, but sony just gives back so little for the cost of it all.

Nintendos report on the NPDS

Independent Data Reveals Nintendo Sales For 2007

Nintendo DS and Wii Finish as the No. 1 and No. 2 Best-Selling U.S. Systems

REDMOND, Wash., Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Nintendo DS(TM) and Wii(TM) finished strong in 2007, commanding sales in the holiday shopping period and finishing the year as the two best-selling video game systems in the United States, according to new data just released by the independent NPD Group. Nintendo DS was the top-selling U.S. system of 2007, with nearly 8.5 million sold, including more than 4 million in November and December alone. Wii placed second, with nearly 6.3 million sold through the year, more than 2.3 million of which sold in the final two months.

"By the end of 2007 we were sold out of virtually all hardware, and much of our stock of software and accessories was sold out as well, thanks to the broad appeal of Wii and Nintendo DS to core gamers, women, families, grandparents - and seemingly everyone in between," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales & marketing. "And that momentum continues here in the early weeks of 2008."

Some additional facts about Nintendo's 2007 performance in the United States (note: All figures are from NPD):

Nintendo accounted for 52 percent of all video game hardware systems sold in 2007 -- more than all other manufacturers combined.

Since their respective launches, Nintendo has sold more than 17.6 million Nintendo DS systems and nearly 7.4 million Wii systems in the United States alone.

Wii Play(TM), a collection of nine fun mini-games, finished 2007 with 4.1 million units sold.
Super Mario Galaxy(TM) sold through more than 2.5 million copies since it launched on Nov. 12.

The two games in the Brain Age(R) series each sold about 1 million copies in 2007.
Half of the top 30 best-selling games of 2007 were made for Nintendo systems, including Pokemon(R) Pearl, Pokemon(R) Diamond, Mario Party(R) DS, Guitar Hero III(TM): Legends of Rock and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games(TM).

Nintendo continues to dominate the hand-held market: Of the top 30 best-selling portable games sold in 2007, 25 were made for Nintendo DS and another two were made for Game Boy(R) Advance.

Sales of Nintendo DS systems grew 60 percent over those from 2006.

In 2007, the video game industry grew by 43 percent over 2006. Nintendo is responsible for 60 percent of that growth.

Wonder how that compares with what microsoft said, anyway just Sonys repsonse to come .
