I currently have a X800GTO.
24" monitor
e6300@3ghz

I dont play the latest games, yet, but i want to give cod4 a try, so im assuming im gona need a new gfx card.

Should i get the 8800gt 512mb or 8800gts 512mb now for under £200?

I heard there are the 9 series cards coming out soon, so will the 8 series drop in price even more?

If you have the money, then both the 8800gt 512mb and 8800gts 512mb cards are great. If you don't have that much money to flaunt then the cheaper options are really the 3850 512mb and 3870 512mb.

Also bear in mind that the 9600 from Nvidia will be coming out very soon (a low to mid card) and the 8800GS 384MB (A cut down version of the 8800gt I think). Not sure the 384 will be much good with modern games though, really need minimum of 512mb these days if you want all the features turned on (And CoD4 really does look stunning with everything turned up).

BTW.. I managed to play through CoD4 with an x850xt 256mb, and before I loaned it out, a 6800LE O/C'd, so I would think you car will just about manage it. I would say about the game in particular that it does still look very good with the graphics options turned down. It isn't 'vastly' different with the 3870 I now own, except minor things such as beter Field of View and other SM3 effects such as grenade shock waves. Try the demo first and see how it runs on your system :)

Lastly the demo itself is only a very small fraction of the game, their is SOOO much more to the game, even though it is quite short. It's one game I have kept going back to the single player missions and redoing. Really enjoy playing it :)

The 9 series are just the same cards (8800's) with a new name, and on a smaller 65nm process instead of the 90nm that they were first released on way back in 2006.

Id get a GTX for 24". :)
