So... I finally get Vista setup in such a way that I'm almost able to live with all it's... "quirks" I then make the mistake of deleting the RAID0 volume that was my old XP drive. And it views this as a "Hardware Change" that requires reactivation!!!!??? It's a completely seperate set of harddrives you piece of ****! Now it has a lovely message informing me that "The Product key I have typed is already in use" and I must purchase another one!!??

I tell you, pity whatever Micro$oft lackey I get on the phone to resolve this! Rargh.

Activation is still required in the same manner for XP unless your XP is pirated or a VLK...

Phone MS on the FREEPHONE number and get a new activation code and stop whinging ?

I had to re-activate after installing a bluetooth dongle, don't see me complaining.

What's the point in getting upset? It's a freephone number and it takes about 2 minutes to activate by phone. If you decide to get angry with the "Micro$oft lackey" you get on the phone you'll be there for hours, if you just answer their questions then you'll be done in no time. Stop getting angry for the sake of it.

I like Vista.

Guess I must like "Quirks" :)

Seriously, activation takes a few minutes over the phone, even less if you do it online.

I don't pitty the call centre person you get at all.
If this isn't just Internet bravado and you do decide to shout at them they'll just hang up on you - then see how easy activation is.

Oh and when you do call, tell the person you speak to that you spelt "Microsoft" on a public forum with a $ sign - they will find you so funny and original, laugh and give you lots of free stuff.

To the OP if you really want to rant in this manner do it in front of the mirror you will only look a T**T to yourself and no harm done ;)

p.s o'h and deleting a volume lol nice move doh ;)

Yeah lets all have a go at the op

I had to activate windows xp recently and it was a real pain in the arse ,it would not work over the internet ,had to wait about 10 mins to get through to an automated message which was so quick I could not understand then got cut off ,called back later same again .Waited a few days which is annoying when windows keeps telling you to activate ,then tried again and some american dude on the phone did it ,but 2 minutes it was not !

It's cool to hate :)

I do think Windows is a bit quick to ask for re-activation, which can be a little annoying. But chill out sidfxv1 and call MS, they hand out now activation codes by the shed load.

Also curious as to what quirks you have. UAC can be a bit annoying, although that is easily disabled. Other than that I wouldn't go back to XP. TBH my "day-to-day" computing is done in Linux, I don't do much on my Vista box other than game, but I did use it day in day out for about 7 months and no problems.

I too do not like the activation thing as I had to go through it after installing the Intel Matrix Storage software. No hardware had changed so this is like crazy in my mind and very OTT.

I realise they have done it to prevent piracy but come on changing a HD software driver forcing re-activation is very draconian:eek:

Re-activating after installing a songle? That is absolutely ridiculous, the mind boggles why that doesn't bother you at all... but then again some people just seem to take anything thrown at them.

crying and getting mad about it won't change anything. Just phone up it's not hard and is very quick. It's nothing to get angry about. Until there's a rival to MS then we are stuck with it.

They are removing the kill switch though. Which means even if you don't activate you will still have all the function. It will however still plainly tell you your copy is not legit. I imagine through pop ups every few minutes

There's a difference between making a valid complaint about something highly irritating, and "crying" as you so eloquently put it. Your logic could apply to any one of a thousand things in life, and if no-one complained or highlighted these points nothing would ever get done about them.

No matter which way you look at it, having to re-activate because of something as completely minor as a dongle is ridiculous and intrusive.

Hows it highlighting the problem by crying on a forum?

If he's really that annoyed right to MS or the media. There's nothing to complain about it's common knowledge this happens and that you will need to phone to activate. It will even tell him that he needs to phone to activate it. It's not a huge problem, what's the point of getting stressed out by it.

He's not crying on a forum, he's posting an opinion on a forum, something I believe they were designed for. In fact do you realise that 50% of the posts in the tecnhical forums are probably complaints about some small thing or other? I could just as easily ask why you are bothering to repeatedly post "crying" about him crying. What's the point in getting stressed over anything eh?

But there's a difference between a complaint and crying about it. It's called attitude.
